Hi all,

Anyone looking for a Maytag 806 washer for parts or project? Come and get it (Chicago area) before it goes to the curb for bulk pick-up day on May 13.

Thank you!

Brad

WOW, it looks to be in great cosmetic condition!

I would HATE to hear it went to the crusher!

Someone in the Chicago area PLEASE SAVE THIS 806!

Brad, is there anything wrong with it (so anyone interested will know)?

The tub is seized. If you work it loose (the repair tech used WD-40), it will run fine, except for a leak from the seal - the counterweight sends the dripping water flying during spin. Controls, motor, and pump work fine. I guess the transmission is okay since it worked smoothly after it was unstuck? It sat for another year and is stuck again. I wanted to rebuild it but I can't remove the agitator (yes I tried all the tricks), so I'm done with it. It was suggested that I cut the agitator up to get at the nut, if anyone is up for that.

It really is a beautiful machine. Been in this basement since new; former owner was very fastidious.

I just realized that...

one can select a warm rinse, no matter the wash temperature, on this machine. (I noticed that some posters have bemoaned the fact that many washers no longer offer a warm rinse.)

This is also the only washer I know of that offers a slow wash/fast spin combo. That's one of the main reasons I'd like to find an 806 near me.

Too bad this one has a problem. Everything about it is too nice to end up at the crusher. Those selector buttons are barely worn and worth saving, just for starters.

Well, its official...

I'm crazy. I have confirmed with Brad that I will come and rescue this gem of a machine. I know it is going to be a long, hard road to get it back to operating condition but just look at how nice it shines!

Brad, thank you for giving me this opportunity to get started on my road to pure washing pleasure. I didn't think that I would find something this fast! Also, a big thank you to those of you who steered me in the right direction. I had no idea that these old Maytags could have so many features and were so nice. It will be a pleasure to take this baby apart and get it sloshing again.

Gyrafoam

Thank you. I am glad I found it too. It seems like the general consensus is that these old Maytags are very hard to kill. I won't try though. I am going to baby it and try my best to fix problems before they turn into true killers. I love how versatile it is with all those wash and rinse options. I was surprised it has a pre wash and soak option.

Also, thank you for the tip on contacting yogitunes. I will message him and see what he says.

I told Brad that i would arrange to make a trip

I am planning on making a trip up to Chicago to pick this Maytag up. Brad said that he would hold it for me as long as I am picking it up for sure, I told him that I was for sure going to pick it up. I didn't know that you were thinking about getting it goatfarmer. That is all that has been said up to this point. If you are really interested in it we can talk privately.

I would think it might be fairly easy to find a matching dryer for this washer. If not a perfect match, at least a close one.

Thank you goatfarmer

I will take good care of it. After all, I don't plan on collecting washing machines (famous last words) so I plan on making this one mechanically sound. I'm sure I will find a dryer for it eventually. I can't wait to kick my old dryer off to somebody. The "dry miser" automatic feature failed and will continually dry your clothes till they are about ready to catch fire! I wrote in sharpie next to the dial, "do not use dry miser unless house fire is desired. Use the timed drying instead." That put the fear of God into the roommates!

Also, goatfarmer, I looked on your profile. You have an impressive list of fridges! I especially like the "Firestone" fridge. I've always wondered what was the story on those. Was it made by THE firestone company? The Firestone tire company that is?
