Maytag 906 Set

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

BAM! Rich puts out another knock-out pair! What a nice looking set! Wouldn't take much to re-paint the consoles to look like new! Install a 50 cycle pulley on the washer.
Great pair!

Oh, Thank GOD!

They're Harvest Gold - if they'd been White, I would have had to hock the car or something; I am going to pick up another major score tonight, and money's too tight at the moment to be discovering a pair of these lovelies running around loose!

Nice, nice set, and for those who like Harvest, a major find.

Question

What a handsome set - That's the TOL, eh? Maytag didn't have a second rinse option on the TOL models back then? Maybe I missed it when I viewed the washer console.

Leonard, no 2nd rinse option on any Maytag until they moved the dial from the center to the right. And I don't think 2nd rinse option was available that 1st year or two. But I could be wrong on that fine point.

Second Rinse

Thanks - I love Maytag line, and would love to have a one with tub light and though I think Maytag rinses better than other machines, I do use a second rinse on everything.

I almost about a 608 pair in 1978, but I decided against it because it didn't have a 2nd rinse option, which I had gotten used to with our Kenmore 800. So, I opted for a GE FF with 2nd rinse.

"no 2nd rinse option on any Maytag until they moved the dial from the center to the right"

2nd rinse option came a wee but after the dial position change and trans change (orbital). The 810 (TOL after center dial change from 1980-198?) didn't offer it and neither did the 712 (TOL after 810 model from 198?-1986)

2nd rinse

I'm still looking but the earliest reference I can find to a 2nd rinse was on the LAT8706AAE which was produced in the mid to later 90's.

Why would one install a 50 Cycle pulley?

Faster agitation and spin.

Where can the 50hz pulley's be found? I keep getting "NLA" everywhere I've entered the part #'s.

Remember, you have to use a 'Y' in front of the p/n now that Whirlpool owns it. The part# is Y202496 and is still available. Also remember, Maytag laundry went all over the world. There is a large list of 50 cycle parts for this because we operate on 110v60hz power. If you move to a place with 50hz power, the electrical items such as the timer and drive motors, valves, etc will operate differently. (I think I'm right on this...) the 50hz pulley increases the speed. (MAN, I hope I'm remembering this right...) There is also a kit that is for the dependable care washers that have to drain into a drain connection that's way higher than normal such as a washer that's in a basement and the drain is above in the ceiling above and there is so sump pump to pump it up to the sewer pipe. It comprises of a different sized motor pulley and pump assy with different sized pully to make it able to pump out. It's called a high velocity pump kit.

Thanks for the tip Andrew!

Also guys - if you want the pulley, don't forget the belts that are needed too. Since the pulley is of a different size, the standard belts will not work. I don't have the PN's on hand at the moment.

A beautiful set...would love to have that as my first vintage set...but the shipping to TN would be a killer!!!

Thanks for the tips RCD!

Different 50hz belts, yeah, I forgot about that. Can anyone comment on the outcome of the 50hz conversion as far as performance over stock?
