Maytag A207 is working perfectly!

I posted a while back about a possible starting problem with my A207, where the start switch didn't kick out and it blew a fuse. I've been more careful about what's running on the same circuit, and it seems to be running great. It does agitate a bit slow on the first load, but it warms up quickly and runs fine after that. My only issue now is that the lid switch has stuck closed, which isn't an issue until it goes off balance (which hasn't happened in a couple weeks of it being stuck), at which point I'll have to try and un stick it or bypass it (haven't done anything yet). I like being able to watch it without having to jam something behind the lid. It is washing great and I'm having no problems with it. Capacity is a little small when I'm trying to catch up on laundry, but not a major issue. It is so simple and does what it was made to- Wash clothes. No more floods either, thankfully! Just thought I'd post an update!

My dad still has his A208S from 1976. Good job on the A207. Just don't leave the house when you are using it in case of unbalance load. The Maytag's don't go off balance too easily anyway. More fun to have the lid switch bypassed anyway...

I don't usually leave with it running anyway, but I haven't bypassed the switch yet, so when it does go off balance, it will shut off, once. Then I'll have to either fix or bypass the lid switch. It hasn't gone off balance since I installed it a month or so ago, so that's a good thing.

I thought I would mention, as I don't remember in the thread, but that start capacitor for the Maytags...here is what is in the book for those models:

 

>>In some installations with low voltage, the washer motor will hum and fail to start spinning.

If a motor remains too long in the start winding, it will overheat and trip on the overload protector. 

With a start capacitor added in series with the start winding, the motor will develop additional starting torque helping it out of the start winding faster.

 

>>Keep in mind that the main problem is low voltage which should be corrected. A start capacitor is helpful for voltage ranges below 110 volts...below 105 volts, installing a start capacitor may or may not help.

 

>>A start capacitor adds extra starting torque helping the motor get out the start winding faster.  By giving the motor this additional torque, it will not overheat and open the motor overload protector.

 

>>The Maytag Part#2-6103 Start Capacitor Kit

 

Just a note in the back of the book...

Here is the aftermarket equivalent, not as neat as the oem maytag capacitor, bracket, shield, and leads.

It does say it's a WP OEM part in your link to the cap. but also out of stock until later in January.

When I put a start cap on my A906 to assist spin start-up with the 50 hz pulley, I just used similarly rated cap from a Direct Drive WP washer I had on hand. Worked like a charm and no light-dim on start up.

Have you raised the top and looked at the lid switch mechanism? It may be just gummed up and need a bit of cleaning.

I haven't done anything yet, right now I'm working 6 days a week and on 7 days with no day off- the only day I have off this week is Christmas, so it won't be getting any attention until sometime next week at least.
