Hi All, I have a big problem. My brother changed the timer on my Mothers(stay with me) Maytag A208 washer. I believe he mis connected a wire because it is not working. I have scoured the interenet to find a color coded schematic to no avail. Maytag was no help either. Where can I find one of these?

If you take off the front of the washer there should be one glued to the outside of the tub.
Maybe this picture will help. You can try using the "super searchalator" at top right of the index page. Type in "maytag a208 timer" to pull up archived threads that may provide useful information.

Maytag wiring-
Maytag wires have numbers printed on them near the terminal end that should match with the numbers on the timer.
The front panel is held on with 2 Phillips screws about 3 inches from the bottom.

I'm not sure why you'd need to take the entire front panel off of the washer's cabinet, but as Jeff stated, they're up front at the bottom. You can't see them unless you get down there and look, and you'll need a fairly short screwdriver. The panel swings out and lifts off once the screws are out.

Thanks for the info on the numbered wires and front panel removal! I'm going over there tonight, I'm hoping the wires are in good enough shape to read the numbers as that should solve my problem. Failing that I'll take the front panel off and have a look for the diagram.

Now I have a new problem with the machine. The washer and timer work fine on Hot/warm setting, but when they use the hot/cold or warm/cold cycle the washer fills fine then washes/agitates and gets and gets to the rinse/spin cycle and just stops. If I manually advance the timer it completes the cycle normally. Is there a cold water valve solenoid or something I should be investigating? At this point I'm only out around $45 for the timer and I'd like to keep this machine going, My mother is 90 years old and despises change in addition to the fact its a strong machine.

Considering that the timer and the water temperature selectors are two separate systems, it seems odd that the warm or cold wash/rinse settings would have any effect on the timer's function.
If you're getting warm and cold water into the tub by manually advancing the timer, the cold valve solenoid must be OK.
This is beyond my scope and will require advice from the experts.

Can you get cold water when set for wash?
Jeff, I'm guessing that at her age, Brian's mom knows better than to run a cold water wash, but I'll be interested in finding out if there's any connection between temperature selections and timer dead zones. Seems to me that there shouldn't be.

Yes the correct question is can you get a cold wash, if so the inlet valve is OK if not the machine may need a new inlet valve, otherwise the timer may be at fault or improperly wired.
