wash times and maytag '06's
frigilux,
my delicates too are now washed on a 10 minute wash time
although I always did think 10 minutes was a little skimpy ( grew up with an A606S w/ perm press)
the 06 series was produced while phosphates were still in detergents and shorter wah times really could get the job done.
back then.....for me at least...with a full load
12-14 minutes for heavy soil ( I would reset the timer)
8-10 for normal soil
6 mins for very light soil
6-8 minutes on gentle action for delicates
all times reduced for partial loads
And remember about the 06 series Maytags
there was no modle number change when perm press was added.
U could have an A206 or and A606 with or w/o perm press and maytag literature uses those terms.
Then there is the A806............
the original model had a wash 'n wear button...next to the regular action/gentle action buttons...there was no separate cycle.
When the whole line of '06's added the perm press cycle the A806 changed in the fact that it then had the separate cycle on the dial for perm press and 4 speed select buttons for regular or gentle wash and fast or slow spin.
A rather unique (timed not really) bleach dispenser was available on the A806 only.
However u could never get a slow spin on perm press until the 10 series which began in late 1980.
And in between the 06 and 10 series were the '08's
I refer to them as the Jimmy carter models. From 1976 to 1980
they were alost identical to the 06's on every way acept for the following.
**** a direct in bleach dispenser was available on more models
**** a Hot wash /cold rinse had to be available on all models
the '06's had hot warm only on regular ...the only way to get hot cold was on perm press
**** the control panel changed from seamist blue to warm walnut baige
**** the round orange light above the center dial dissappeared,
There never was a A808 produced the model# was not changed from A806 during the 08 series run becasue the 806 always allowed for a hot/cold regular cycle... during the 08 run the the A806 lost its suds saver option availability and went to a direct in bleach dispenser.
Easiest way to identfy what u are looking at
'06 original modles with no perm press on dial...even the deep tub (19) gallon only had 3 water levels and up to 14 mins wash time
'06 models w/ perm press
temp buttons were (cold warm hot) water levels were (small
medium normal) (and large) for the deep tub modles
up to 10 min wash time only...8 mins for perm press
'08 models
temp buttons in reverse (hot warm cold) higher end modles without suds saver option has a hot/warm option
water levels now called (small load ..medium load ...Large load) (Ex Large load) for the deep tub modles
hope this clears up and does not confuse
