maytag a608 noise on spin

i just bought a 1977 to 1979 (not sure what year)a608 from craigslist yesterday for $30 and it makes a spin noise.its not the bearing noise because i know what that sounds like.everyone with an older maytag that i know has that sound.its not all the time and its louder as you have the lid open.its kind of consistant with the speed of the drum,my moms 1986 maytag started doing that as it got older,and still does it.any advice
