Maytag A608 question

I recently purchased a Maytag A608 to replace a newer machine and to match my DE308 Dryer. When you use the permanent press side of the wash after it finishes washing and drains, Upon refilling it keeps refilling and doesn’t shut off until you advance the timer. I’m going to replace the timer but I want to be sure that I am replacing the correct Item. I am assuming that I don’t want to replace the timer motor because if it was bad then none of the timer would advance. So I’m guessing that the timer just has a “flat” spot in it somewhere and that is keeping it from shutting the refill off. Otherwise it all works fine. Also is there anything else that I should possibly replace or other items I should “stock-up” on for future issues? Thanks in advance for any & everyone’s help.

I suggest checking:

The Water Pressure Switch, it might have an issue problem for whatever reason, causing the Water to not Shut-Off, although I would also believe that the Water might not Shut-Off at all in any of the Fill parts of the Cycles.

Good Luck with the Repair and finding out what's wrong. There are some real good Guys here that will be able to help you with Parts, possibly even without the need of going through a Parts Department.

Three things to check...

1) Sticking water valve
2) Sticking water level switch
3) A blockage or restriction in the pressure hose going from the tub to the level switch

So if the water fill is working on the regular cycle ok and works ok after I turn the timer past the bad spot on the perm press cycle could it still be the water level switch? Or does it still sound like the timer?

Vent The Hose

Install a siphon break and you'll do fine.

Timer.

While that may be the problem, SAVE the old timer motor. This part isn't especially cheap or easy to get. It can't hurt to have a spare. I just replaced it on my A806.

Whirlpool has obsoleted just about everything, so it won't be long before used parts will be the only available option to keep the ol 'tags a runnin.

Great. I will go and get one in the next few days. We have a parts repair place here in Nashville called Marcone and they usually always carry replacements or suggest a substitute.
