Maytag A712 Is Dying

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

For some reason Dan, your words "past life" caused me to remember what happened. A few times I forgot and left the bleach dispenser hose unattached...(don't remember exactly what I was doing) but, while the machine was filing water overflowed from the hose and spilled onto the baseframe...' underthought' about the amount of water leakage possibly down into the shaft...not realizing the damage I've caused. Can I save the spline and helical shaft?

The threads on the helical shaft and splines for the brake package are coarse so you should be able to successfully use a rust remover/dissolver.

Finding a new 200835 pulley bearing will be a challenge. You'll probably have to source a used one from a donor machine.

If your 712 was built after June 1986, replace the lower lip seal.

I would replace both those bearings while they're out for peace of mind. Just add a teaspoon of oil to the brake package ( SAE90?) the splines and rust can be cleaned with a coarse then fine wire brush. Wire wheel on a drill is even better.

Thanks alot guys...Hey Lorainfurniture, I'm sure your shop is close by now but, I'll take the deal!!! How can I order them both, (brake and top bearing) online?

Dan, I'm not sure what designates the year built but, all I'm able to see clearly is my model number and series '04' number.

I feel the same way you do robbinandmyers, that's why I asked about replacing the brake package...'peace of mind'

Hey guys, I may be able to have her up and running tonight or at least by the morning. When I laid the washer on its back, I noticed water leaking down inside the back of the cabinet from the siphon break and drain hose area but, when I felt for water, it was dry. I removed the outer drain hose to see if the siphon break 'elbow' was cracked, it's fine. I laid it on its back again...water drained out the elbow, as should but, no leaking inside the cabinet. Input will help me move forward.
