Here is a short video of me washing whites in the A806. It was a medium sized load and used large water height. Turn over is pretty good.

As long as a Maytag was underloaded, it would provide turnover, although more so with the Powerfin agitator than the original Gyrator. You can't load a Maytag as full as you can a Frigidaire with a Three Ring Agitator and get the turnover the Frigidaire gives.
Laundry is clean after a washing like this. The tub has room to move the laundry around for a thorough cleaning and rinsing. In solid tub Frigidaire the up and down motion simply balls the laundry up, and tumbles it tied up in a ball. Laundry simply will not get clean clean like that, and the "overflow rinse" is just a waste of water. A fast spin speed doesn't mean much, when the dirt is still in the laundry. Maytag and Kenmore/Whirlpool machines were and still are the very best.
A Maytag does not need to be underloaded, it needs to be properly loaded. That said, the machine in casciomichael's video appears to be a bit underloaded. A full load that turns over slowly will get cleanest.

Michael, your Maytag sounds great. And bonus - the loving sound of a Mallory timer advancing away! You really have a gem there - enjoy!

I suspected this was a medium sized load and should have set the water level to medium. Still trying to get the hang of sizing loads properly. Seems to me with pants I have to size up on water level. Other items should be sized to the height of the unwashed clothes in the tub.

Of course there will be loads that are a bit much for 'medium', yet a bit light for 'normal'.
As I see it, the main design flaw on these machines is that, with the lid switch operating, the owner can't learn to load the machine because they can't see what it's doing.
I wish you the best of luck with your A806. I've had my A606 for 15 years and I love it.

I'm jealous of how quiet that trans is. My A407 has the typical loud RRRR, RRRR, RRRR, RRRR as its agitating due to many hours of use. I wish all the Pittman internals were still available. For my money, owning a classic Maytag washer means you have to own a Mallory equipped one to enjoy the torsion spring and ratchet in action sound.

I did quite a bit of maintenance on this machine, the trans has not been opened up though. I also suspect the machine does not have high hours due to the lettering being mostly intact.
Here is the thread I started a few weeks ago and show pictures of the refurb work. I added sound deadening to the inside of the case and I suspect that helps.
