Maytag AA208 Maiden Washing Voyage!

So everything works on the old girl, I ran a small load of laundry through it and it performed well. The circuit tripping was just that outlet not providing enough amperage for the agitation cycle, so I plugged it in somewhere else. I have noticed that the water valves are slow at closing, it almost made me believe the washer was not shutting off they were so slow. Maybe time for a new set? Also, the tub to pump hose is hard as a rock and leaking so I'm going to replace that.

On another note, how does the water level control work? I noticed it has a small rubber hose going somewhere. Is there anything I could service on it other than replacing the hose that would reduce the chances of that part failing? The water fill also sprays water into the drum like its partially obstructed, water spraying different directions and such. Could that be mineral deposits? I tried removing the rust stains in the drum with Iron Out but it didnt seem to touch it.

If your machine (or the valves) are new enough, that's how they are supposed to work. Sometime in the mid 1970s, Maytag switched to slow-closing valves to lessen the water hammering that fast-closing valves had.

rust stains in the drum with Iron Out

Try diluted Muriatic acid for the tub rust stains, flush well with water and don't leave longer than necessary.

Probably has hard water deposits in and around the water injector as well. I'd take of the front panel off lift the top and have a look. Parts are replaceable;

The sleeve injector valve is worth replacing, it's cheap to do, and reduces the chances of future leaks in that area. When doing it, it would be a good idea to upgrade to the newer style sleeve injector at the same time - it has a barrier wall around the vents to catch small amounts of spray from escaping.
