So several years ago, I accidentally snapped the head off the agitator locking screw on my 1994 LAT4914 when I was trying to remove the agitator to give the machine a good clean. I since dropped that project since it didn't really need a clean and I did not want to deal with getting that broken screw out. Well anyway a few weeks ago I removed the plastic tub cover to clean it since it got extremely filthy, and while I was there I shined a flashlight between the two tubs to check for rust and found what looked like a massive spot by the drain hole. Luckily it hasn't yet rusted through to the other side or compromised the integrity of the steel, but it is something I need to take care of soon.
I can't do that until I get a replacement screw. The only ones I can find online are sold with the agitators, and I'm not paying $50+ just for a single screw. What do you guys recommend as a replacement? They have a specialized thread, is that necessary? Can I just use any screw that is roughly the same size? Thank you for any assistance you guys may have to offer.
