I'll be rebuilding my A712 here in the next month. I'm debating whether or not to replace the brake package with a new one, or one from a newer doner machine. But I've been searching on here and it seems a 50/50 split on the forum. Is it worth replacing or rebuilding?

I know Maytags index a bit under high loads, but wouldn't a new brake package help with this and make the tub stop sooner after spinning? What kind of materials are these made of on the inside anyways?

brake package

It is a rare thing to replace a brake package I have only done that to coin ops.if the tub is indexing it is often because the transmission is binding or the load is too big or wrong water level.I have only replaced them when they are making a horrible noise they pretty much work or they don't.

Leave it alone, maybe add a tablespoon of transmission oil if you like, I don't think I have ever replaced one of these in a home machine.

There now you have heard it from three experts that repair washers for a living, on a HDMTW a little indexing with heavy loads reduces clothing damage anyway.

That will teach me to give my .02 cents on new parts!  Good luck and hope you get your machine back to perfect.

On note taking, if I took a Maytag down to the base, then restored it, I would/have replaced all the parts that were new  & available while in the process.  I guess this is just part of who I am.  Right or wrong, it's what I like to do.
