Maytag Combo Comes to Life

I've been steadily making progress on the Maytag combo this week, there are only a couple more things to do before it will be ready to move to a place on honor in the laundry room. So far, I've filled the tranny with 85W gear oil, disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt the water pump and blower fan, replaced most of the rubber hoses, rebuilt the 4 solenoid water valve, rebuilt the fabric softener dispenser (although I need to do this again as it doesn't seal well enough), replaced the panel light switch and spent several hours cleaning the drum of lint and hard water deposits. The seemingly endless work is starting to pay off though, I was able to water test it a couple of times today, thankfully the timer is good and all electrical systems seem to work. I have a few things left to do; adjust the pump belt tension, finish the dispenser and find a belt for the blower fan.

Looks like the water really whips up when it is in tumble.
Was that the automatic fill? Or did you just add the water? Was wondering if that was the water level for this machine. Is it a automatic water level like the other combos?

Oh Greg, it is just breath-taking!! I love the panel light and then with the dial lite up as well it is just beautiful. And to think that it also has an inside drum light.....What can I say. When you have it all together and ready for that first load you will have to get a bottle of champaign and have a toast.LOL Thanks for sharing. Terry

First Signs of Splashing

Yeah, fun... While trying to thread new water supply hoses (with chop sticks ;-) through the maze of equipment crammed inside that cabinet I didn't think it was too fun. I was contemplating a very sternly worded letter to the engineering department at Maytag but all that frustration was washed away when I saw it run through an entire cycle (sans clothes) last night!

I might still have to write Maytag about that odd narrow belt they used for the pump and blower fan but I doubt I'll get very far. I'd probably get farther taking a 5/16" nut driver to visit the factory store display! Just kidding...for now.
