Maytag Commercial Set

These are almost Identical to the commercial coin op machines we have in our laundry room at our rental property and we seldom have any issues with them. I’ve never really used them though but I don’t get complaints either. First are these easy to convert to coin op? Second they are asking $250 for the set, seems cheap enough but I’d like input on whether these are worth it. I’m sure some of you are very familiar with these.

I think it comes down to the commercial Maytag being in about the same league as a Speed Queen traditional top loader for old school no nonsense performance, although the SQ is the better built of the two.  The Maytag is more affordable brand new, but won't likely hold up as long without need for repairs as a SQ would.  I think $250 is a fair price for the set, but it could cost you another $250 to convert them to coin operable.

Coin op conversion?

Is it difficult/ expensive to convert these to coin op machines? I’m not sure what’s required for this conversion or maybe it’s better to just use them as is instead? Are these great performing machines or just average?

These are real Newton built machines, they are designed for institutional use.

 

The only way to convert them to coin operation would be to take the top and controls and coil boxes from similar Maytag coin operated machines, these parts would be costly and are almost all NLA.

 

These are a pretty good for $250 if they are in good condition, If you need them for your rental property you may consider putting these in and either giving the tenants free laundry or use the honor system where you ask the tenants to pay a certain amount every month based on how many loads they wash.

 

I have property owners that do this here in DC and they say it works great, One told me that he gets more money tacked on to rent checks than he got out of the coin boxes, and tenants love the convenance of not having find coins to do laundry and the hassle of collecting the money and eliminating the risk of break-ins.

I have used

these Maytags. They do have a sturdy feel. My only criticism is the rinse cycle. I just restarted it to the 10 minute wash. This was in my college dorm. The whirlpool built maytags do agitate longer. I wish it would fill up to the top.
