Hi! DRL123, I'm not trying to sound wrongful, but is there any way that you could possibly change your Basement Door area, with a Wider Door Opening? If not, is there some other place in your House or your Garage, where you might be able to install a Washer and Dryer? Hey! If there's a will, there's a way to get around most problem causing things not allowing something to happen or to be able to get, something that you would really want.

I could remove the door frame. I'm considering doing that because I would like a larger capacity washer/dryer. No garage. It's a condo. But, you're right, Steve. I can probably make it happen.
So, if I could get a little more clearance, do you have any recommendations? You guys/gals seem to be the experts.

I dunno if they are the aformentioned models, but I saw a compact Maytag front-loader and matching dryer stacked at Home Depot this afternoon. No price tags on them. Stainless drums on both. Apparently no heater on the washer, based on the amperage rating on the model/serial tag.
All European sized models should fit through the door of your basement since the width of all these machines is less than 24 inches (60cm wide).

These models are made for Maytag by Samsung and unbelievably work quite well and are extreamly quiet!.At The Home Depot,The washer retails for $649 and the dryer retails for $449.That's $100 off the original tag price.The washer has a 2.7 cu ft capacity and has a spin speed up to 1200 rpms!!!!.During the demo,the controls sounded a lot like those on the LGs and the cycles were similar too.Both the washer and dryer have stainless steel drums and the outer drum of the washer is also stainless steel.The washer's arms are perferated and the set can be stacked using an optional stack kit selling for a mear $19.95.H.D is now having 0%interest on their credit card untill 2006 and a mail in rebate for the delivery of anything over $299.Their service plans are only $89.99 per appliance for an additional 4 years parts and labor.The plan begins AFTER the manufacturer's first year is over.It covers ALL parts and labor,any milage,any damage caused by power surges/power outages/or lightning.It is transferable and can be cancelled at anytime.However if you cancel the plan it is pro rated and you won't receive the full amount back.

I really appreciate the detailed info about the Maytag units. That sounds like a great deal from Home Depot! I live in a small town in Montana about 45 miles from Bozeman and the nearest HD, so a service plan that covers MILAGE would be a huge plus. I am seriously considering this pair and your input has been very helpful.
However...your club and all the information here has been like a candy store for me. I've been fascinated reading about everything. I hadn't thought much about these appliances before. Now I can't stop thinking about them. I spend far too much time reading through Threads and cruising appliance web sites.
My latest love is the Bosch WTL 5410 Dryer and WFR 2460 Waher. The Axxis series are perfect size for me and I like the idea of condensation drying. My dryer has never been properly vented. This is weird, but it is so dry here in the winter that I've used the humidity from the dryer to humidify my condo. It works well, but I know it's not a very good thing to do.
So, here are the questions: 1) The difference in price is significant between the Maytag units and the Bosch. Is there a noticeable difference that is worth the price? I know this is somewhat subjective, but what do you think? 2) Is the condensation drying system really as good as it sounds? What are the possible problems with this process?

Two HD stores recently opened in our area so I decided to check out the Maytag Neptune Compact units.
Both the washer and dryer look very nice, and well built. Though it does lack an internal water heater, the washer has a good range of cycles and a pretty large capacity for such a small footprint. Indeed the GE (made by Electrolux) washer which is only about 1.0 CuFt larger was much larger and lacked all the cycle choices of the Maytag unit.
Both units are labeled "Made in Korea" and are VERY well built. The door on the washer is one of the sturdiest I've seen in along time on non European front loaders. When one closes the door it makes a nice tight lock, and when open the hinge/door is very tight with hardly any play. In addtion the door feels "soild", not cheap plastic like other washers.
The sales person at HD told me the Maytag Neptune Compact washer was $849! I asked was he sure and he checked again, only to come back and say that price is correct. Since Sears sells the unit for $699 and is currently offering free delivery and or zero precent financing, think Sears is the better way to go.
On an aside, Homeless Depot really should do a better job of educating their appliance sales staff. The salesperson kept trying to sell me the "GE" made GE front loader, and I kept pointing out GE does NOT make the unit, but Electrolux.

Laundress,Home Depot has a full paged nationwide advertisement ad out for those models for $649 and $449.What you need to do is call my store (407)865-5410 EXT 109 and ask for Chuck.I can sell it to you for that price and have it delivered and installed to your house for $50.There is a $50 mail in rebate for delivery.All I would need would be your name,address,phone number,zip code,credit card number including the 3 digit number on the back and the toll free phone number to call,the bank issuing the card,your driver's license # and your home phone as well as cell phone numbers.It takes about 10 minutes to process and as long as there is a Home Depot in the area where the customer is calling from or giving me the information on,it easily goes through and the delivery dates available come up.I ask what date they would like it delivered,type that in and the day before delivery,they receive a call to let them have a 4 hour window on when it will be delivered.Chuck

I went to work and called corporate headquarters tuesday regarding the price on the compact Neptune front loaders.They verified what I said about the prices and told me whoever is giving you the prices you mentioned earlier is wrong and needs to be fired.Again the in store prices are $649 for the washer and $449 for the dryer.If you buy them from the store and have them deliverd from the warehouse,the prices are $699 for the washer and $499 for the dryer.the in store sku numbers are #389674 for the washer@$649 and #389725 for the dryer @$449.
