Ironic that there's been so much coppertone posted here lately, but I thought this was appropriate. Tonight Ben stopped by to work on the Kelvy and noticed that the coppertone paint jobs on the two Maytags are NOT the same. Take a look at the attached pic- the '69 model has the dark coloring around the edges while the circa '76 machine is completely solid. Of course the front panels are identical, having light in the middle, dark around the edge. Anyone else familliar with this?

PS, Hey Filterflo, there's a shot of pinky!

Cory, according to my Maytag book, they dropped the "shading" and chrome trim piece in Oct. 1975. This was also the time they added the "SunGlow" console and timer dial color. Revised the bleach dispenser also.

Colors

In general, the shaded colors went away in the mid-70's. In the case of GE, when they introduced "The Naturals" in 1977, Avocado (shaded) became "Fresh Avocado" (no shading), Harvest Gold (shaded) became "Harvest" (no shading), and Coppertone (shaded) became "Coffee" (no shading).

maytag colors

If I remember, Maytag had 2 different names for "brown" I believe the 69 with the shaded edges was called Cordoba copper. The 76 with the solid color top was just called Coffee. We had a bottle of coffee touch up paint hanging around the store, i'll have to see if its still lingering.
