Maytag DE 750 help

Hi,I have been trying to fix my dryer and have a few questions.The problem seems to be the momentary switching action that starts the motor. I can jump the two termanls fast and get the dryer to run. So is the switching action controlled by the pushing of the selector switch button or is it from the electronic control box? Also what does the electronic control do? I see it has a rectifer,resistors,neon light,and a relay. I also was wondering where to find discontinued maytag parts for this unit. I like this dryer alot. I have owned it for 19+ years And the only other problem I had was the heater burnt open once.

Parts are beginning to be a real bitch to find for these older models, but they're still out there. Gotta find out exactly which part is causing the problem though, you don't want to shotgun it with parts. Let me do a little more research and I'll see what I can come up with.

I have been looking through my stash of info and came up with this flow chart. The DE-750 is pretty much identical to the 906 (same control switch, electronic control box, ect), which shares similar circuits with the 606 and 806 models

Take a look at "Dryer Will Not Run -- DE-DG606, 806, & 906" flow chart. The numbers in the box represent the terminals to ohm out. Unplug the dryer during these tests!!!

Also, you may want to check the carbon brush that makes contact with the slip ring. It may be worn out by now.

This is probably way too obvious, but...

If all else fails woudld a momentary contact switch installed that jumps the two temminals you manually jumped be of service to you?

qsd-dan thanks for the flow chart i can almost follow it. I think the problem is in the selector switch witch will be hard to find. I still don't know why the bell solonoied buzzes instead of ringing one time. could it be from the controler rectifier being bad? Also when I had the dryer running I noticed one section of the heater looked much hotter than the rest 29 amps seems high.

I'll keep digging for more info. Seems like most of my info is either too old or too new.

I do know the part# for the switch by heart.....302271. Finding a new switch will be a serious task though. Most appliance places don't have that model on hand for some reason (probably age), so just tell them it's for a DE906....same exact switch.

I did have the bell buzz on my DE750 once (and I felt it pulse through the button) when I selected a "Regular Dry" and one of the other buttons was half way pushed in. Freak me out for a second, but luckily no harm was done.

the part number i see on it looks like 3-2271.maybe the buzzing bell messed the switch up because they are linked by a piece of wire.

Correct, but you add a "0" where the dash is. It took me while to figure out Maytags method of part # madness and where to and where not to substitute a "0" or simply ignore the dash, like the part # for belts 2-11124 (211124) 2-1125 (211125). A little confusing at first.......

Heater amps

29 amps is to high the heater may be shorted at one point to the housing it could be a fire hazard if the extra hot area is not near the safety therostat it can get very hot maytag had a lot of these dryers catch fire when i was working for them in the mid to late 70's

The Fix

Look I think i fixed it (HA HA!). Well I guess necessity won out but the price was right $0. I do still plan to attempt fixing the 750. Thanks for all the advice and help.still looking for the switch.
