I can't find much info on this model dryer, but we moved into a house and they left us this model. Stills works! It's hardwired into our house which is kinda weird... Anyways, last night we smelled burning rubber. Maybe it's a pulley or belt... Repair company wants $65 just to come to our house. Do any of you know of a place that sells vintage parts? Or have any of you had this issue before? I Really don't want to buy new if I can avoid it!!

Around the time that dryer was sold, lots of domestic 230V dryers were hardwired into the house grid.

If I were you and wanted to try saving that dryer, I would spring for the 65 bucks to have a qualified service person come to your house to make certain an appliance wasn't going to cause a fire. Safest option unless you're skilled enough to open it up to know exactly what part is malfunctioning.

BTW, I think the DE702 was one of the best HOH dryers Maytag ever made. That's not saying that much but I love mine. Don't use it, but I love it.

DE702 timer

I'm just curious - how does the control on this dryer work? On the three auto settings, do you push the knob in to start and the dial remains stationary like on the later '06 series? On the time dry and air fluff cycles, does the dial move towards "off" when running or is each number a separate cycle and the dial remains stationary too.

One of my aunts had this dryer but she never let us go to the basement and play with it.

Thanks, David
