I recently rebuilt a DE808, and it seems like a lot of lint gets by the screen. Is this just a normal for these? I bought a new lint screen and it seems a little loose in there but not much.

Had a DE608 for years, never had that issue.
If you are not venting it to the outside, you need to put a nylon stocking or pantyhose over the end of the vent attached to the dryer. The air stream is so strong that fine lint does get blown past and through the screen. The HOH dryers with the screen right in front of the blower were really bad about this.

The great majority of lint produced by drying clothing goes right through the lint screen of most American dryers. The screen is pretty porous.
The filter is only to catch the worst and largest particles to keep it from clogging the exhaust system as easily, if you’re using a dryer without Being connected to an exhaust, some sort of auxiliary filter should be installed as Tom’s suggested. the other quick and easy suggestion is do not clean the lint filter but every several loads wait till the lint is at least a quarter inch thick before cleaning maybe half inch thick, this will not cause the machine to malfunction or become dangerous because you don’t have the back pressure of a long exhaust system, in addition to a full Lint screen.

Cleaned, but reassembled correctly?
I took this dryer down to where it was a naked base plate and a pile of parts and wires and redid everything. So everything was 100% like new when re-assembled. However though, I am wondering if I put everything back correctly as far as those thin strips of metal that go into the lint screen housing. That may have been when I combined Rumchata 101 while re-assembling. The new lint screen feels loose in there and the first one I bought I could not even use because it had a gap in it all the way across, both being new whirlpool's. My original lint screen fit better, but there is a tear in the material. The screen on these, feel like cloth and my Bravos XL one feels like strands of plastic, but nothing gets by it. I agree the DE808 has my air flow for sure. I do vent to the inside for winter, so maybe one of those water filters for the end of the exhaust.
It leaves a fine powdery coat of lint on everything.
On another note, they delivered a new Maytag MVW7232HW2 yesterday, so today we shall see how the new ones work.
