I went to a few buy and sell places in my city today, looking for anything unusual and interesting. I certainly found something. The tech at the buy and sell said he was surprised to see it, that hes never seen a "new style" Maytag with suds return. Its a model LAW9406AAE, and in some of the Maytag brochures I have saved, I can't seem to find anything on it. Pardon the pictures as they were taken from my phone, but I wanted to share it with everyone.

Here's a wider view, the top of the timer is where the return cycle is, after the Delicates cycle and before the Normal cycle. You can also see the long hose too.

I always wanted a suds saver model...

...but I have never had a laundry room with proper space for a laundry tub. I think they make sense, especially if you lead a low-soil lifestyle.

I should have bought it just as is, before they fixed it up. It is a unique machine, and in my basement I have the space for a laundry tub. Drat.

Load Sensor Agi

IMO, Maytag's Load Sensor Agitator is the only DAA worth having. Quiet and Powerful!

LAST MT SUDS-SAVER WASHER

I have the exact machine at our warehouse and it could be yours. As is $100.00 needs center seal and tub bearing, fully fixed and cleaned up and tested $295.00. I bought it from a recycler because I though it was worth saving. I also have one of the last KM DD washers with the water saver feature that allows saving either the wash or rinse water and either the first 16 gallons or up to the full 23 gallons. It is $245.00. I also have a 1986 MT 2 SP washer with suds saver that works fine for $145.00.

Suds saver washers are getting rare and are a great way to enjoy a regular top loading washer with killing the bank and without guilt. Who knows you may even be able to talk the local utility into an energy star rebate.

What about...

Saving both wash and rinse water?
Or only the rinse water (without conditioner)?
So you could pre-wash / soak with the saved suds and 'wash' with the rinse water. My guess is it would improve the results...

US SUDS-SAVER WASHERS

They never made one that could save both automatically, but the KM DD machine did let you chose either the wash or rinse water.

Most suds-saver washers just saved the wash water as this is where your washing money is invested. In most of the US the most expensive part of washing a load of clothing is the cost of the detergent used, the 2nd cost is heating the wash water, the 3rd is the water itself and usually last is the cost of the electricity to run the machine.

Suds Saver washers

Almost all automatic washing machines built in Australia up till the early 1990's had a suds save feature, whether it was manual or automatic.

Here's a video of my 1977 Wilkins Servis having the suds returned to the bowl.

Cheers

Hey guys!

Sorry I'm late to the party, but YES, we have that exact same washer as our daily driver. We received this washer with the matching dryer from my parents as their wedding gift to us in 1998. Bob is correct that these had to special ordered from Maytag. These were made towards the end of Maytag's production of suds-savers. The only trouble we have had with the washer was that the first two tub seals split at their seams. Otherwise, they've provided trouble-free service for nearly 13 years coming up in July. The suds return feature is used every week. When we moved our laundry up from the basement, we brought the suds tub up as well. One of our friends says we're cheap, but I say why waste perfectly good wash water. Isn't that being "green"?

P.S., Kevin, what was the asking price?

Hey Tim! I don't know what the asking price of it was, because it just arrived within the last day or two of me visiting. Usually they ask around $300-$450 for a MT Dependable Care...

John,

Do you still have any MT DC SS machines for sale? What would be your rock bottom price with the center seal and bearing fixed?
