Maytag Draining Issues

Hello Guys,

I have a Maytag washer Model #A612. I did replace the drive and the pump belts and the water pump of my Maytag washer. The problem is sometimes it will drain fine, and the other times it only tickler drain the water or none. What is going on? I have check the belts and the pump both are fine. I did unhook the main hose from the tub to the pump there is nothing blocked it. Sometimes I have to reset the timer back into the wash cycle and it will drain fine, what is going on? Is this Maytag worth fixing again? Thank you..

Have you looked into maybe the pump itself might be blocked by a washcloth or sock. It can happen but very rarely have I ever heard of that happening. I had a similar problem with my A613 and I bypassed the built in siphon break and bought a new drain hose that fit onto the pump itself. I took out the knock out plate in the back of the machine directly behind the pump in the back wall. The hose I replaced it with was a new plastique hose thats was for my dependable care machine. Now the washer drains fast. I dont know the p/n for this hose. You can more than likely get it at any Maytag Parts place. Also I left the original hose from the pump to the siphon break inside the washer...I just put the hose in the corner area so it wouldnt move. I was too lazy to take the top off and disconnect the whole thing. There I said it...lol

Another place to look... A common thing to find is a coin in the outer tub. It'll move around the tub and get caught in the tub outlet by the suction from the pump. As soon as you turn off the washer, the backflow of water going back into the tub will 'pop' the coin (or what ever) back into the tub. It won't always get caught every cycle but often enough to drive you insane. You can try to remove the top end of the tub to pump hose (hopefully with the water out) and stick your finger up there to see if you find a stuck coin...

I had a somewhat similar experience to a lesser degree and found out that the hard water here plugged up the siphon break with deposits after 22 years of use. The siphon break wasn't working correctly in either direction (full flow one direction, resistance in the other direction)

Coin or Button

I had a button in the tub to pump hose that acted like an erratic check valve since it was the exact diameter. Simple fix for a troublesome problem.

A weird drainning

<font color= Purple> I notice sometimes when the machine is spinning, if I push the slow speed, and then I push the fast speed, it will start to drain. How weird is this? Or do I need to take this Maytag outside and shoot it? lol

If the machine is spinning fast, NEVER push slow speed. Very hard on the motor. OK to go from slow to fast, but never fast to slow.

How high is the drain? The washer is designed to drain in to a sink no higher than the top of the machine.

That isn't too high.

I once had one that wouldn't pump out. The pump looked fine, but as a last resort I changed it anyway and it solved the problem. I still don't understand it but it worked. Might be worth a try. New Maytag pumps are cheap on eBay and it's very easy to change.

I did put new Belts on the washer
I did put a new pump on the washer

Now, I am selling it.

If no one wants the washer, the Maytag washer is going to be throw out. The last day is Jan 31, 2009
