Maytag dryer bell dongs, not dings.

DE712 dryer of mine, the bell makes more of a dong/thud sound. I want to check out the solenoid, but before I do does anyone have an idea of where I should look? Everything moves and isn't obstructed in the bell/solenoid mechanism.

Oxidation on the bell. Remove the bell and polish with a brass cleaner.

We also have a 712. There was a piece of plastic with a small metal rivet looking thingy in it. When the solenoid would engage, that plastic thingy would swing back and forth on the solenoid mechanism and smack the bell if that makes sense? That plastic piece is NLA. I have looked around for that piece but cant find one. Our dryer works just fine also but the bell/chime sounds like it is dying. I think it is called a "chime actuat" in the parts look up.

I am going to try the above mentioned suggestion to see if we can get a bit more noise out of ours.

When the plastic body chime broke on my DE808, I fabricated the old wire style chime using a brass screw like the HOH's did. Takes quite a bit of time and finesse to get the bends and angles correct but it will work.
