Maytag dryer on Craigslist. Worth it or not?

Just caught this unit on CL. Can anyone identify it and suggest if it is worth pursuing? Looks like it may be MOL or BOL.
This is a HOH model, right? Easy on clothes but quick drying?

Yep, it's a BigLoad dryer with reguar and delicate fabric heat buttons and timed drying for regular, perm/press, and air/fluff. I'd say MOL. BOL would have no heat buttons.

I just know the wife will absolutely go bananas if I show up with this machine. Bad enough I still have a few spare dishwashers in the garage!
I have always said that she should be glad that I have a thing for dishwashers, especially that I am a Pisces and that she should be glad I am not collecting washers and dryers, but I would love to get this one.
We currently have a Model LDE9696ACe Dependable care unit. Would this Center Dial unit be bigger and faster by any chance?
And what is the story behind the "Stream of Heat?" I don't think I ever heard that before. Maybe a precursor to what we have now?

Identical to my daily driver. Auto dry with 2 temperature options. Mine's gas and it's a great dryer.

The SOH Maytag will dry faster and more even than a top filter WP/KM models because of that stupid design with the heat and exhaust inlet/outlets at the back of the drum. Large loads will fry the in the back while the front and center parts are still damp. I permanently banned my '81 Kenmore from blankets and comforters because items would require constant attention of turning them inside out and rotating them 180 degrees. This is needed up to 5-6 times with large comforters. With SOH's, once, 2 times at the most. With HOH's, almost never, and if it's needed, only once.

I agree that bulky items don't dry well without adjustment, but for EVERYDAY laundry it's faster and more even than a Bigload dryer. I have used every brand of dryer out there many times, and for the $$$$ and all things considered,a W/P Kenmore 29" dryer is hard to beat.

Well, my HDE808 will dry a full load out of the 806 5-7 minutes BEFORE the washer is done with the next load. My '81 Series 70 Kenmore will run 15-20 minutes AFTER the 806 is done. Clothes also come out of the Maytag more evenly and accurately dried. Nothing beats the accuracy of an electronic controlled HOH though.

Your Series 70 Kenmore: I don't believe it is has an electronic dry control, does it? I don't see how you can compare the 2. HOH is very accurate with moisture, but a much smaller drum, hence a smaller load. I agree that a thermostatically controlled dryer is slower to respond via it's indirect measuring of moisture. I also agree that the Maytags were better built machines (porcelain tops etc.)

Yep, it's moisture sensing.

For clothes, the SOH is the quickest, which is probably due to the higher wattage heating element. HOH only lurks a couple of minutes behind the SOH. The Kenmore takes the longest, but leaves the clothes a little fluffier than either Maytag design. However, the Kenmore is gas and the the Maytags are electric. I've noticed that gas dryers tend to leave clothes a little fluffier...probably due to the moisture burning off from the NG.

For comforters, the HOH wins.....hands down!! I've jammed a king size comforter with my leg into the drum of the 750/806 and it comes out evenly dried without flipping it once. Gotta love that 360 degree Halo design!

The Maytag on C/L is pretty much identical to the Dependable care you have now, mechanically anyway.

I just looked at the breakdown of the DE308 and it is very close to the dependable care unit we already have, but it does not look like the picture at all. Anyone willing to offer another model number. I emailed the seller but no answer yet.

29" WP DRYERS VS MT SOH DRYERS

The 29" WP built dryers are not only usually faster than any other modern dryer but they are also more energy effencent. True that when you overload a 29" dryer it loses speed and possibility evenness but normal sized full loads dry much faster in a 29" WP built dryer. First of all a WP dryer has a higher watt heater than MT ever used in a in a home dryer of 5600 watts, it also has a much better fan and more direct air flow that pulls the clothes back and forth in the drum as it rotates. In the MT SOH dryers the heated air is actually going right through the center of the clothes as they tumble. Dan its silly to argue with people who have had far more experience with dryers than you, one or two good or bad experiences do not constitute an absolute fact. The SOH MT dryer was an average performing dryer at best, even MT made a big deal when they finally improved it with the redesign that came with the 27" models in the mid 1990s. Thats when they finally fixed the problem with the blower wheels stripping off the motor and improved the air flow by redesigning the blower and blower housing to increase air flow. The smaller drum diameter and deeper drum reduced the problem of heated air just going through the middle of the load, and they finally fixed the back a--word belt and idler pulley arrangement that was used on the 29" SOH dryers that they used just to prove that every other company was wrong because thier belt around drive was inferior to the HOH dryer drive system. But they finally saw the light and deiced to do it the way WP had been doing it since 1961, it only took them 34 years, any wonder they are gone.

It's silly to argue with somebody who spews lies to just to ruffle my feathers and mock Maytag. Anybody here who actually OWNS and regularly USES these machines clearly knows your posts are both highly bias and full of . There's a big difference betwen working on them and acutally using them as a daily driver!

I grew up using my '81 Kenmore (parents bought it brand new) and I got it from my parents when they wanted something newer after it broke down 3 times in one year. I think owning, restoring, and using/experimenting on a regular basis with 4 HOH's and 1 SOH (not to mention Grandmas HDE806 HOH for decades) gives me enough experience to express my opinions. Perhaps an electric WP/KM dryer may be quicker than either electric HOH/SOH design, but if you actually read my post, my series 70 KM is a GAS dryer, and it AIN'T quicker than either Maytag design.....by a long shot!

Ahhhhhh, but a DG HOH only takes 1-2 minutes longer to dry a load of clothes compared to a DE HOH, right?

Kids....play nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All I said was to hold out for a W/P Kenmore dryer..........I do fix them for a living and that gives me enough experience to express my opinion. Dan, just as you have owned Maytag all of your life, I have owned W/P for most of my adult life and have been repairing them for quite a while. So let's agree to disagree.
