I had a visitor from California today. QSD-DAN came over the hill for his HA806/HDE808 set and brought me a present as well! We decided to work on his set at the shop so I could show him some tricks on repairing them. He will do the cosmetic cleaning back home when things aren't so rushed but we had to play with the set, of course!

Here is Dan opening up the 806...

We went right thru that washer. We replaced the injector assy, belts, lubed the damper and motor carrage. I even showed him a trick on lubing a noisy tub bearing without tearing the thing apart. The trans seals were good so no oil leakage!

YUCK!

We had a bit of work to do on this one. New support rollers, idler pulley, belt and blower. A vacuuming and then a working over with a compressed air gun quickly put things back in order!

First load!

After some TLC, the 808 ran like a dream. Quiet and the electronic shut off worked perfectly! It even made that wonderfull 'DING!' as it shut off.

Look at those lights!

Once Dan gets them cleaned up, they'll go for another 20 years! I think what ever he has currently in the laundry room had better pack their bags!

Well now, what was RCD's reward for all this?

Well... Not much...only the most wonderfull 1958 Maytag 641c dryer I ever laid eyes on! Yeah, I'm biased! Just a little! Thanks to QSD-DAN for making a Maytagman's dream come true! I just about had a 'loss of control' moment when I saw that come out of the back of his truck! I'll post another thread as I get into this one but here's a few pics!

Proud papa!

The wife knew this was coming but didn't have any idea what it looked like. I only was able to find a drawing of it in a parts breakdown. Dan, I can't say enough! The wife is threatening to kick the Neptune dryer out of the laundry room for this!

May is Maytag month!!!

Great set!I would wire the drum light to come on along with the panel light on the washer. The 806 is one of my favorite models.

Well ... it looks like you both had a very beneficial day!!

Dan should be very happy with that set; they sure are a beauties!!! Nothing quite like that helical drive.

Drew ... you got yourself a match to your E2LP! WOW!!! Sounds like you're going to have some fun ... that sure is a beautiful dryer!

:-)

Slap!

I should have noticed that in the third picture that there is no provision in the upper tub ring for a tub light.

When did the 806 machines stop the tub light?
Was it when they went to the gold panel as opposed to the blue?
Also, is that when they changed the bleach dispenser from the right to the left side?

The A806 is a series 2. I'll have to look at the separate thread about when things moved around for the 806. We got that HA806 running virtually silent. Well, as silent as a healthy Maytag helical can be...

The Drive between the S.F. Bay area and Reno isn't that bad. Around 4 hours or so.

Wow, what a great time guys! Wish I could have been there. You've got quite the shop set up there Andrew.

Dan - your 806 looks to be running like new now, and Andrew - you've got quite a dryer there! Are you looking for the matching washer now?

Curious to know what the trick was to lubercate the tub bearing without disasembling the whole unit. Do tell! :D

Also nice to put some faces to the names. Thanks for sharing!

Ben

CONGRATULATIONS Andy!

Wow that is a beautiful dryer! I think BOTH you AND Dan scored with this deal! That harvest gold set he got is awesome and that dryer is just stunning!

CONGRATS again!!!

I have a question. Where is lint screen/filter on that dryer? Is this dryer below a different year or a different model since it has a "lint drawer" on it??

My HoH maintenance thread might come in here.

Most people here know of the Halo of Heat and later Big Load dryers, but fewer people (myself included) know about Maytag's pre-HoH and condensing dryers. Could the model with the lint drawer be one of these?

Dave

Dave, I am wondering the same thing. Back in the 50's my aunt had a Maytag condenser dryer and it had a lint drawer just like the one in Kevin's picture. Hers was not the top of the line like this one as hers had no console light but the little Maytag emblem in the center of it lit up.

Maytag condenser dryer? No.

When I posted the photo of this PINK Maytag 641C dryer in another thread, Ben (swestoys) said it's NOT a condensing dryer. He noted the model # (641C) as the regular dryer and a 641W is the condensing dryer..... so I am just going by what Ben said.

Thanks, all...

As soon as Dan gets back to the Bay and his computer, I'm sure he'll have a few things to say and hopefully a pic or two of the set installed and washing.

I'm looking forward to doing a THOROUGH teardown and rework on the dryer to insure years of troublefree service. Maybe some rewiring as well. QUESTION: Does anyone have a lead on the red/black button console light switch? The one on the dryer is actually crazy glued together and working on a wing and a prayer... I'd be in someone's debt.

Kevin, my dryer's lint filter is in the back like all traditional HOH's although the filter disc on this one is METAL, not plastic/fabric. I'm not sure about the difference between mine and that stunning pink dryer pictured above. Perhaps if you sent it my way, I'd be glad to eventually get back to you on the differences after I spend some time playing... errr... RESEARCHING it...

Polkanut, that's kind of you to say but my Neptune dryer's been around the moon with me and has not given me even an ounce of trouble. Looks like I'm going to have to give in to the wife and install some extra hookups in the garage. Soon enough, I'm going to look like the neighborhood laundromat...
