Sorry for the stupid question, but I just got lucky today and someone gave me their old Maytag LDG808 dryer! It works perfectly but I want to do some research and learn more about it.

Could someone tell me:
What years they were made?
If I needed parts, is there a similar model number I would use (like DG808) since I don't find much looking for the LDG808?
Is there a place I could find the plastic control knob (it's the only thing broken)?
I think it' supposed to light up, would I use a 24" L20 bulb to replace (thought I saw this bulb on a site where a guy was doing a restoration on a similar model)?

Anything else you could tell me about this dryer would be appreciated. I think it's pretty neat and want to .know a bit more about it, Thanks for your help!

Hi. A nice dryer for sure. You can use the DG808. The 'L' in your model number just denotes that your dryer is almond. The knob is easy to get. P/N 312852. The bulb is also easy to get. Two screws on the top to remove the cover and there's the bulb with the numbers on it. Also theres the starter which fails with age as well. There is also a drum light.

Congrats on a beautiful machine!

Years made and cap for the knob?

Thanks RCD! Now that I have the part number for the knob, I found one on eBay right away. I also read that there was a little chrome cap for the knob... Are those easy to find too?

BTW could you tell me about what year my dryer could be from? Love the style on this one!

Thanks again!

How to get to drum light?

I was able to pull the fluorescent bulb. Looks pretty good but I guess I can't tell if the bulb is bad or something else is causing it not to light unless I buy a new bulb... any other trick to test?

Could someone also tell me how you access the 40 watt appliance bulb used for the drum light in the DG808?

WELCOME TO AW. ORG

You couldn't have joined a better site for appliance information. Whether it's to get info on a machine that you have, or one that you're looking for, or for advise concerning your appliance. If you happen to collect them all the better. Everyone here couldn't be a better group of friendly people who are willing to advise and give guidance for your appliance needs.

You've managed to pick up a nice dryer that several people have in their collections. Just as an FYI- if you want to know when your machine was made you will need to get your dryers serial number (include all numbers and letters). The mfg date is coded into the serial#. You can either post it here on the site or you go possibly go to appliance411.com to get the date.

For your drum light- have you checked to see if the lens cover in the dryer drum is removable? Some are just with a slight twist of the cover or the removal of a screw.  A lot of them are so that you can have access to the bulb to replace it if it burns out.

If you have any other questions about the machine don't hesitate to ask here. Again, a great group of people who are willing to lend a hand in keeping good appliances up and going.

Again, welcome, and best of luck!

The "08" or "Big Load" dryers were manufactured for home use from July 1976 through June of 1980. The fact that yours in Almond means it was a little bit later in the run since Almond didn't come on the scene until the "New Naturals" industry color standardization occurred in 1977. If you could post the serial number we could tell you the exact year and month it was manufactured!

Sadly, replacing the tumbler lamp on these dryers is a bit of a project since you have to remove the front panel. It isn't a big job once you know how to do it.

#213077 is the cap. The bulb isn't too bad to get to. Two Phillips screws along/under the ridge/lip that runs along the bottom of the front panel. Then you gently raise up the panel like a garage door to disengage the front panel clips at the top and off it is. Two things. First, unplug the dryer as the door switch wires are right there and are easy to short and, two, remove the panel carefully as those same switch wires are easy to pull off and then you have to figure out where they go back on.

If you give us the model and serial numbers, we can tell you month and year of production.
