I will be receiving a match set of late 1970's or early 80's Maytag large capacity two speed washer and dryer. My brother and his wife bought a new set. I get the old ones Yea ! The problem is the washer at the end of the spin, as it slows down or stops make a high pitch noise. Any ideas what is causing this and is it easily fixed? Other that the noise the set work fine and looks like new, and you know what they say "It is better to look good than to feel good".
Any help with this would be appreciated!

That screech you hear is called "'dry brake'. The brake package needs about a teaspoon of turbine oil and that will quiet it down. You need to take off the drive pulley from beneath the baseplate. Anyone here can walk you through it.
