Maytag Neptune 4000

Hi Everyone,

I need your help again. I picked up a Maytag Neptune 4000 off of craigslist and the seller said it doesnt spin. I tested it and it fills with water then shuts off. It does not tumble or spin at all. I checked the control board and there are no burned resistors. Also, the fuse on the motor control board seems to be ok. Does anyone know what is wrong? Do I have to do a motor coversion?

it shuts down completely?....or just the motor functions does not work?

what about the pump?...working yes/no?....this should also have the sprinker pump as well

and lights...."on"...."door lock"....

was about to say put it in diagnostic mode, but remembered, yours is not digital....

anywho, pull the tech sheet, there should be trouble shooting ideas just the same....

You DO have both hot and cold water hooked up right?.....some of these are little finicky over water being turned on, and certain times thru out the cycle it will sense for things like water level and drain siphon....but not at all times...

other wise, it could be the computer, motor control board, or the motor itself....I haven't worked on a 4000 in a very long time...

Non Spinning MAH4000

Most frequent problems we see are

1 Spin enable switch not quite closing in door lock assembly, I often add a credit card thickness as a shim to make these work.

2 A break in the out of balance circuit, you can easily by-pass this circuit for testing purposes, then if it spins look for the broken wire connector or bad UB switch.

3 A bad motor control board, depending on which of three different motors and boards your machine has on it at this time you can either replace just the board [ if you can find the one that is compatible with your motor ] or just buy the complete new motor and board kit from WP, this gives you the latest style motor and board.

There are also other possibilities some of which Martin already mentioned.

Next to bad main bearings non-spinning issues are the major reason we are seeing Neptune's junked.
