Maytag Neptune Dryer Help

We moved into our new place a few days back and what a surprise we found!
MOL Maytag Neptunes! I noticed the dryer was really dirty so i took it apart to clean it, but when I tried to put it back together, the drum moves up and down no matter how I put the drum in. What am I doing wrong? Currently the dryer is fully assembled yet the drum still moves around.

well, theres no wrong way to put the drum in, it can be reversed.....

it just rides on two rollers on the rear bulkhead.....and glides on the front....I guess it could lift some...

but once you install the belt, pulling tension down on the drum, it should work as normal...

getting the front shroud and surround on can be a bit tricky....

I should add, when i turn the drum by hand it rubs up against under the top panel. This is honestly the first time i've ever had an issue like this, I've managed to complete a Samsung, and a Whirlpool top lint trap dryer with ease.

Take it apart again and see what needs correcting, I assume that you did not take out the screws on the back of the machine that hold the rear of the drum in place, if you did you may have to take the dryer apart from the front and reassemble the rear drum screws first to reassemble the dryer properly.

I'm going to try later again today. I'll let you know how it goes. I've tried multiple times last night repeating the process only to end up exactly where I'm at. I saw a video where the drum was being held up from the back while the bulkhead was being screwed into place... perhaps thats where im missing out on.

don't quite understand how your getting 'play' in the drum.....

but this vid might help to understand how to disassemble, and reassemble....and also making sure the rear bulkhead is secure to the back of the machine.....

Neptune Dryer Repair.

Thats the most ridiculous way to replace the rear rollers I have ever seen, I feel sorry for someone watching this video and going to all the extra work of removing the rear bulkhead.

Looking at the video more carefully it seems as if the drum doesn't get slid back all the way but instead rests on the rollers...I'll have to try that as well.

I thought I knew the answer but didn't want to post until I was sure. I had to run an Atlantis version of this dryer through the shop this morning. (yes, I'm working on a Sunday when we're closed. Only 10 more hours to go!! Ah the life of a small bidness man) Anyway, the tub WILL move up and down when assembled. There is play there since it rides on rollers in the back and lower slides upfront and only held at the top by the felt. So, don't worry about some play.

All electric dryers I've been into are basically the same; rollers, belt, motor, spring-loaded idler for the belt. Now how they rest in the front can vary a bit. But they all have a wear plate, usually dense plastic that the front of the drum rides on.

I would examine that very carefully....all of it. I have this dryer at present along with the FL washer.

Thanks for all the replies. I decided over the course of the week to note any odd machine behaviors and it appears it seems to be functioning fine. It was and still is a little odd to me how the drum moves up and down...but as long as its normal i guess its fine.

They're sloppy that way, especially if you examine how they ride in the front.
