Maytag neptune MAH7500AWW

I just bought my second set of the maytag neptune 7500 series washer and dryer on craigslist. It has the typical bearing issue which I'll fix but when I took the front and rear panel off I noticed something strange. It has the old style motor and board. It also has the old style dispenser system. I thought these 7500s would have had the latest board, motor, and dispenser system. Does anyone know about this?

What is the serial# of your new machines, with that they can be dated.

Well...

Series 87/88 was where things changed. See enclosed parts illustrations.mine had the older motor which I changed out when I overhauled her prior to putting her into daily service. That and I replaced the bearings as a matter of course...

windowed doors are always a nice addition.....my first set I bought new around 2000 is just about ready for bearing and seals, not bad for 14 years of heavy use!

Thanks Drew. I believe my 7500 was made in november of 2000. Motor and board seem to be in great working condition so I will not convert them just yet. Plus, I kind of like the original motor sound. Sounds like one of my 4000 series Neptunes.

Does anyone know how difficult it is to replace the bearings to the machine without using the Tony Tool? Any tips when replacing them?

I agree with Drew! I would put a Neptune up against any new washer today. I think the combination of water usage and the baffle design makes for excellent performance. Too Bad Maytag had so many issues with these machines and was aquired by Whirlpool. I am curious what the Neptunes would have developed into today if they were successful. I think they would have continued improving the original design and not have gone with those crappy Samsung made units.

I love your collection! How many units do you have? I have aquired 8 Neptune washers and 6 Neptune dryers. I love these machines! I am always checking CL for cheap ones people are selling. How did you modify your basement to accommodate the multiple Neptunes you have?

Was the model I owned until it was destroyed by a flood, the same model replaced it but I had plenty of problems with it, not knowing at the time it was detergent and water related, not the machine, as I discovered after I replaced it with a different FL'r and had similar problems.
At one point I thought I was the crazy one, but figured it out with no help from P&G, and wished I had kept it, my sister has it now and loves it and she is a big FL'r follower.

not sure what you mean by "modify my basement"...actually that should be 'basements'.....but, you kinda adapt to what you have, and work with that...

I have 7 5500 series washers, and 5 5500 series gas dryers, and a stacked unit....so far.....plus a parts machine...

the first time I did a bearing job, took me about 3 hours, now its just a little over an hour once you get the hang of it....a few simple tools and your good to go....I hvae done this both in and outside the cabinet....complete removal of the outter tub from the unit just made it easier all the way around, plus allowed you to take it outside and scrub it clean.....I search for them cheap as well, but they are filthy when we get them....

Then again I do have a whole lotta other machines, but that's another thread.

 

I replaced the bearings in a friends 5500 last year and it's smooth and quiet!

 

I like my Neppie (as Drew calls 'um) and used it every week for a long while!    The only thing is it doesn't have the capacity of the two larger FL's I have.   Aside from that it works great!

What I mean is what did you have to do to fit all those machines in your basement? Did you have to redo the plumbing and electical to make all of them work? Can they all run at the same time?

I am in Fresno, ca. Where do you usually find all your machines? I would love to find a Westinghouse Laundromat washer and dryer. I am a big front load washer fan.

all plumbing/electrical/venting was done by me, in all the rooms at both houses....

hot/cold supply with main shut offs for the whole room and valves for each machine.....2 inch drain pipes or laundry tubs...quad outlets for each circuit breaker....

venting is usually 4 inch PVC pipe for each dryer......
all are natural gas, allows for more hookups versus 220 lines....more efficient as well....a straight horizontal pipe with "T"s for valves of each machine.......

as for HE machines, I can run them all at the same time....for a Neptune or Calypso, a few gallons is a quick fill....

..for standard TLers, water pressure can limit to two filling at a time.....especially time fill machines....

mostly never a problem for draining, just watch for them all draining at the same time, it may be a bit much......but usually I only have two TL going at the same time...

depending on your setup or collection, and your personal use, a second water heater may be needed/wanted ..... this has only been an issue during a wash-in, where the heater can't keep up....

each setup is gonna be a little different, just keep the basic guidelines, mainly diameter of supply lines as well as drains.....and don't overload an outlet/circuit

I did all the plumbing in my garage!   Photo #1 is before and #2 is after. 

 

The electrical was already in place (but all on 1 breaker), I just needed to add the water supply and drain lines.   Since the utility sink was already there, I tied everything in under the sink.   I also had to move the sink about 8 inches to the right so I'd be able to fit 4 washers in that space.

 

I can have 3 HE machines and one vintage (or 2 with one next to the sink for a total of 5) all running at the same time and no problem.  If I have 1 HE and 3 vintage washers connected, like Martin said, only 2 can fill at the same time due to the water pressure.   

 

Additionally, as everything is all on 1 breaker, I have to be careful how many <span style="text-decoration: underline;">vintage</span> machines are spinning or going into spin at the same time.  Especially if the '55 Unimatic is being used, because the breaker will pop every time.   I can have 3 or 4 HE  machines plus 1 (or 2?) vintage going w/o any issues with the breaker tripping.
