it fills, but when it starts washing, it splashes water every where, and makes a racket (like a loud clicking noise)

thoughts as to the problem and what it will cost?

Questions that might help...

What year is it?
Is it under warranty?
Any recalls on it?
Do you have any photo's of it to post?

No pics
No warranty i know of
No Recalls

Its about 5 years old from sears.. If i can't figure it out soon, im tossing it for a Front Loader

From where exactly does water splash out? Around the lid? From under the machine? The nature of the wash action should preclude that from happening ... unless perhaps something has gone wrong with the clutch and it's spinning at a high speed when it should only be tumbling.

Suggestion: Since the lid locks and you can't otherwise watch it run, unlatch and raise the top so you see (with the lid remaining closed) if there's something obviously wrong. Slip a putty knife into the seam about 2" in from each side, press gently to release the latch clips while lifting on the top.

Mine is spinning while its washing... And making a clicking noise.. Boy did water fly every where..

I watched a few videos online as well.. I would like to keep this washer, but is it really worth it??

I am thinking of replacing it with a GE Harmony or something similar to it with a wash plate (or disc)

I'd guess the clutch is at fault. It mounts directly to the center drive shaft under the tub. Looks like a large pulley, the belt fits around it from the motor.

Part # 12002211. A tad expensive. RepairClinic.com lists it $148. PartsTap.com $147. SearsPartsDirect.com $161. Check your other sources as well.

OK

GOing to call maytag in the am and see if they will help, if not a GE Harmony is in order... Its not a bad washer, but i am not inclined i dont think to replace this... and im sure it will be 300+ to repair
