Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

That looks really minor.

These shaft's were fairly easy to come by until 8 years ago as they had a run from 1956-1989 but nearly impossible to find now.

You may try taking it to a machine shop and see if they can weld and machine that area down. Otherwise, the shaft is in almost pristine condition.

Worn and corroded agitator shaft

That shaft is not in good enough condition for a long lasting rebuild job.

We have certainly seen ones in worse condition.

I would try filling pits with epoxy and then put an epoxy finish on the shaft a machine shop could make it look great again, but it has to have a corrosion proof finish on it to be a lasting repair. Otherwise it will just corrode and tear up the new seal. It cannot just be a plain steel shaft.

You could all so have it repaired at a machine shop and then have it nickel plated, however, Maytag used more of a epoxy coating in the later years on these shafts.
