Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

More than likely, not their first. The original Whirlpool/Kenmore washer dryer combination units and the commercial dry cleaning units they made for laundromats had a great recirculating spray.I grew up with a Lady Kenmore combo (gas version)and it had a recirculating spray that would recirculate the water through the dispenser bowl for the detergent and a wash filter at its base.It was a wide, strong spray similar a bit to the GE filter Flo.It (on the Kenmores) was on the right hand side of the rubber boot and sprayed directly into the rear of the wash drum.

I remember the one on the combination washer dryers that Whirlpool made were extremely helpful in getting the load real clean and thoroughly rinsed.ours had a concentrated "Super wash' that would begin using less water which would concentrate the detergent (Dash) and then, more water would come in to continue the normal 12 minute wash.I would take my gym outfit home every Friday and it was so clean that my fellow students would pay me $2 to take theirs and have it washed in our combo!! The phys ed teacher thought I had a scam going and stopped us from doing it after seeing me get $20 from 10 guys together.Oh how I miss that great unit.I see no justifiable reason for the current manufacturers to not have these come back in to production.especially since those who made the original ones are,in most cases today, now merged together, and could make a fantastic, efficient, well constructed combo.

Joe, where did you see this picture? Also, is there any type of text descriptio0n associated with the product? which washer is it? I came across something last night which informed me the new Maxima uses as little as 11 gallons for a full wash cycle. that got me to pondering and wondering if WP had decided to put in some sort of rcirculating spray like Frigidaire did with their latest model that frigilux got last fall.

Recirculating Spray

If that picture is a recirculating spray, I hope they have something in the water path to filter lint from the system.  Otherwise, I see potential for quite a few service calls.  Plus, I hope they have made advancements in the water pumps quiet factor.  Noisey pumps are unacceptable in these expensive machines.

Nice... except for the tinted windows :^(

Malcolm, the washer has a tub light that will stay on for 5 minutes. It appears to be aa decent brightness. I like the potential for these machines.

Alexander, teh 9000 series isn't on the Maytag web site yet, as of 7 days ago. They have the 6000 & 7000 series Maxima models thought. wonder if there will be an 8000 seies. this 9000 series corresponds to the TOL WP version.

top on top of the washer & dryer

Would someone explain to me the purpose of this top which fits over the top of the washer and ryer, kind of like a red painted counter top and sloping metal front part.

Tub light...

Actually, if one turns on the light once the cycle has started, it stays on until the cycle finishes. It's pretty awesome!

Lowes is sending us a replacement machine (same one) and it should arrive on Monday.

Ohh, thanks jamie. At least someone listened to us around here so we have a light that stys on through the whole cyccle lol. I hope the replacement solves all the issues too. These do appear to be really good machines.

Press and Hold for 3 Seconds

Under the column of buttons on the right it says to press and hold for three seconds but doesn't indicate what each button does. Usually, the press and hold is for a secondary button option.

That is true, I've noticed LG likes to multi-layer stuff on their panels. O the model dispalyed above, there's a setting called specialty cycles. According to the user manual of the comparable WP manual, there are numerous other special cycles that you scroll through with the right & left errors on the panel to see what they are.

Maytag v. Whirlpool Brands

I think the Maytag models have simpler/cleaner controls and slightly shorter cycles than Whirlpool branded machines. For example, the Whirlpool models have a 59 minute default normal cycle time, but the Maytag machines are displaying a 52 minute normal default cycle time.

Perhaps it is similar to how Whirlpool differentiated its Duet HT products from Kenmore HEXt branded ones. The Kenmore models has slightly longer cycle times - and consequently a bit better cleaning rating in Consumer Reports compared to the Whirlpool branded models.

Kenmore offered the "stain treat" option (which started the wash at warm and heated to hot) that could be used on several cycles, while the Whirlpool models had it built into the Heavy Duty cycle.

Bob, the 9000 Series is supposed to roll out in April: http://www.cbs8.com/Global/story.asp?S=13787673

I always wondered what that extra opening in the Duet's gasket was all about - I though it might be to inject steam. I wonder if WP also has this option - there is an opening in the gasket... but nothing relating to a recirc pump on searspartsdirect. This is from the 97 washer:

Specialty Cycles??

Someone please do scroll through and tell me what these are :) Thanks. I looked on the WP discount site....Sister works for Whirlpool, and I can get one of these for 650 to 750...But my Duet is still working perfectly fine .....LOL

Specialty

cycles are:

*Blankets-Comforters
*Pillows
*Sheets-Linens
*Wool-Sweaters
*Kidswear
*Sportswear
*Intimates
*Business Wear

When you choose one of these cycles, there are additional selections regarding fabric composition etc.

Bob the worksurface has a rubber mat and trays for loose change, pins, and whatever odds and ends are removed from pockets before washing. The accessory is described this way in the owners manual:

"The worksurface bridges the washer and dryer, and provides a convenient working and storage area"

Malcolm is correct

the problem you may get with these power sprays is lint clogging the system, but at least you have a window to see the water flow diminish, and then its time to clear out the hoses and ports......

Maytag Neptunes, original 4000 series FL have this option, but with NO window, users don't realize that its not working, I found out by luck with Mother Yogi's machine one day while making it work with the door open, you could hear the pump come on but no water out of the sprinkler, the port at the top of the outter tub was clogged with lint, so once a year I make it a point to take it apart and clear out the lint......
All other Neptunes I have come across only sprinkle when filling with fresh water from the water valves, not recirculated from the tub......fortunately original Neptunes se plenty of water in their FL for maximum cleaning....but this sprinkler system seems to really help with lower water levels

The Direct Inject is still there. With DI, the water that flushes the dispenser is channeled through the boot directly onto the load - see video. PowerSpray seems to use a pump to recirculate wash water onto the laundry during the cycle - much like LG, Electrolux and others.

Thanks for the vid of direct inject. I have never seen it but from the term I thought it would be a powerful jet of water being shot into the tub and through the clohtes as they tumbled. I didn't think it would only be a stream of water running in.

What's the big deal

This looks no different than my Frigidaire flushing the dispenser at the beginning of the wash cycle.

I know!!!

Appnut.

My Duet does the same thing......All it is is the water pushing the detergent out of the dispenser through the boot.....But that's there the water comes from anyway to fill the tub. I don't see the big deal at all...I will say that the pressure of the spray coming out of my Duet is stronger than the one in this video.
