I have a helical drive Maytag....pump is making a noise....I'm sure its the pump...take belt off and noise stops...can the side screw be taken out and lubricated, or is replacement the only option?

Yes, the screw on the side can be removed and allow the pump shaft to be oiled. Beyond that, there isn't much else that can be 'repaired' on it making replacement the only other option.

My pump growls too. (A206), which screw please?

After removing the front cover, get down on the ground and look at the center of the pump straight on at eye level. The screw will be staring directly at you. Use turbine oil ONLY to lubricate!!!!!!

I usually remove the screw, put the machine in spin mode, and squirt turbine oil through the hole after the machine has reached its maximum 618 RPM spin speed. I've actually been able to revive pumps that were on the verge of locking up by using this method.
