Maytag Reverse Rack Dishwashers

I have 2 questions...does anyone have any brochures they could scan of the reverse rack dishwashers? And does any of the lower model Maytags (WC202 specifically) have the heating element on to maintain water temps or is it just tap water temp?

I have a WU204. I believe the heating element is for drying purposes only. Either that, or mine hasn't worked correctly in 19 years, lol.

The heating eements in dishwashers function in two ways.They come on during the main wash to maintain a temperature of at least 150F.Some modls have a sanitemp option that will increase the wash and in some models the final rinse temperatures to between 160F and 180F.Most people who have them take advantage of the energy saver option and let the load of dishes air dry which can save operating costs up to 50% on most models but does not turn it on or off for the main wash.All dishwashers are connected to the hot water line,not cold.

I have a reverse rack, and the heating element only comes on for drying purposes only. There is no water heating on my model. Although, the reverse rack model with the sani-wash selector - does indeed heat the water.

Most (I really believe ALL) machines keep the heater on during washes and rinses to MAINTAIN temperatures.

When raised temperature are desired, on models that offer that feature, the timer stops until a thermostat is satisfed.

Cool, I always pondered that. So, does the Sansi-Wash heat the water during the wash (like it's spelled out) or during the rinse cycle? Does it function like a KitchenAid where the timer won't advance until the water is at a certain temp?

The BOL Maytag reverse rack dishwashers did not heat the water. THeir heaters were for drying only. The MOL and TOL models did heat the water though they were never thermostatically controlled, thus the "Sani" part is really a misnomer. They didn't technically sanitize anything, just turned the heat on to maintain hotter water temps. I believe the TOL reverse rack models had a Temp Boost option, which turned the heat on during the main wash, in addition to the Sani Wash, which allowed the heating element to remain on during the entire cycle. The BOL models lacked these features. This all changed when Maytag introduced its Jetclean II models which used a thermostatically controlled heating cycle.

A Reading From the Book of Maytag -- Please Stand

Sani-Wash - models WU/WC700, 700E, 701, 702. Can be used to improve cleaning on any wash cycle. Maximum cleaning will result when used on Heavy or Pots & Pans cycles. Provides heat from the element during all wash and rinse phases in order to maintain water temperature. On the WU/WC 702, Sani maybe used with Temp Boost option or by itself.

Sani-Scrub - WU900, 900E and 901 Can be used to improve cleaning on any cycle. Best used on Heavy or P&P cycles. Provides and extended main wash time (26 minutes with heat) and element is energized during all wash and rinse phases to maintain water temps.

Temp Boost - WU 502 and WU/WC 702. Can be used to improve cleaning on any cycle, best used with Heavy or P&P cycles. Provides heat in the main wash cycle and is thermostatically controlled to achieve 140F. Main wash will be 13 minutes minimum but if 140F is not reached, wash-time is extended to reach full temp. The indicator light is normally illuminated while machine is running but will go out during extended wash/heating time to indicate water is being heated. On 702 models, Temp Boost can be used by itself or with Sani-Wash options.

Power Boost - WU902. Used to improve cleaning in any cycle but best with Heavy or P&P cycles. Provides heat in all wash and rinse phases and extends the main wash to 26 minutes. Thermostatically controlled to 140F, main wash will be 26 minutes minimum and extended if needed to reach 140F.

Power Scrub - WU1000 Can be used to improve cleaning in any cycle but best with Pots & Pans cycle. Provides heat in all wash and rinse phases to maintain water temps and extends main wash to 26 minutes.

(The 202 models only use the heating element for drying - not in any other part of the cycle.)
