Maytag Tub Top Seal

I replaced the tub top seal on my A906 Sunday afternoon. I cleaned the tub top and tub rim best I could with Lime-a-way. There's still a slight leak, possibly at an area that's slightly pitted/rusted on the tub rim. How tight can the clamp get before there's danger of breaking it? I know the clamp is NLA. What's an alternative treatment? Silicone sealant?

The tub center seal is leaking now, and maybe the pump. Dammnit. I have a spare pump, that's easy. I also have the center seal and bearing kits, that's not so easy, both finding time to do it and getting the agitator out. Do Maytags get water in the tranny when the tub center seal leaks?

well with machines anything is poss.. but dont fret to much.. i got new tub clamp and seal and stem and bottom tub seal kit at that repair clinic on the web that was bout a year ago.. they should stil have them.. that tub clamp gets really tight. try getting as tight as you can by hand.. can always use some sealer too.. but if the bottom seal in the tub is leaking you might as well just do the job.. its not to bad just takes time

The tub clamp can be real tight, however, that is not your issue. The actual seal is the deal. I usually, after alingment and know exactly where to place the "rubber gasket" on the outer tub top, then I coat the entire rubber gasket with vaseline or vicks. Then carefully put it in place and tighten the two screws that hold the clamp alternating back and forth about every 4th or 5th turn.

No to getting water in the tranny (oops, maybe I should say YES, it will be full of water and needs to be replaced, then you might be spent on this machine and ready for me to have them)

With advice I got here a couple of years ago, I used just a little silicone sealant. It helps the gasket slide in to place, and seals it. My A606 hasn't leaked a drop since.

Thanks for the info and tips. I'll try lubing the seal and clamping it down *tight*. I need to run the machine a bit this coming weekend (eeeeeek, can't do that too much, though, with the center seal leak). I'd rather not completely disassemble the top seal again until I have time to break it all down for the center seal and bearing job.
