A friend of mine told me today she ordered a new KA dishwasher to replace her Maytag. She said the DW is not cleaning well.
I don't know what model KA she ordered, but, wonder if she will like it.
I think she is getting it from either Homo Depot or Lowes.

Here is her existing DW

Actually,

She said lately it has not been cleaning well. I told her I would come take a look, to change detergents, etc, but she decided to get a new one. It is mine if I want it.
I have a co-worker who has never had a DW, and I am offering it to her. How could you go wrong with Free????

That looks like it's one model below the one we have. The one we have has a "water heating" light on it.

They clean very well. She should check around the water intake near the center of the tub near the wash arm. Things could get sucked in there, and also make sure none of the holes in the wash arm are plugged. She could take the wash arm off and run the machine for about a minute to clean out the pump if anything is in there also to check the amount of water that is coming into the tub from the pump.

These Maytags, if they are an original Maytag Jet Clean model can clean just about anything you want it to. But this could also be a Maytag/Whirlpool hybrid too. It depends when it was purchased.

Maytag 300

Had that machine.  Nothing but trouble.  Didn't clean well because the flimsy lower wash arm would get caught on the rusting lower rack, and hence didn't turn.  Not to mention the control panel kept going out. The handle latch broke, recalled for fire hazard.  Racks rusted through after 18 months. It would clean well if you babysat it and freed the wash arm when it got stuck several times a cycle.

I too bought a Kitchenaid and replaced the Maytag 300 "quiet" series.  Love the Kitchenaid, very well built, quiet, efficient, and cleans everytime.  It's also the top rated dishwasher.  Only one dislike, and I understand the premise. . . the silverware basket.  You have to load each piece individually in it's own little hole.  This does keep the silverware from nesting, but it's a inconvenience.  A minor one, but inconvenient.

load each piece individually in it's own little hole.

No you don't!! You have made that your choice. But you don't have to do that. That was my Kenmore Elite. I removed the stupid little slot thing and just load my flatware in the basket like an old fashioned silverware basket for dishwashers. Far easier and I have no cleaning issues. I think these things with the little holes in the basket "lid" are stupid.

Had that same machine...

it replaced a KitchenAid that had a pump issue...
the Maytag never cleaned well...
used plenty of water, but had little pressure to the spray...
got the KitchenAid repaired, and tossed the Maytag...
much better...

The 300 Series is the last of the Maytag/Maytags. It was designed and built during the end of Maytag's independent life.
Quality--Not that good
Performance--Not that good
Reliability--Not that good.

Maytag 300 Series

We've had ours for six years and it's still going strong. Ours has the Duralast gray interior and all the racks are nylon, so no rusting, ever.

We've never experienced any of the problems you have had. Maybe you got a lemon with your Series 300. Or could it be that particular machine within the series? I know that there were several models within the series 300 machiens.

Those little baskets that have the lid on them are where you put small items that may fly around during the wash cycle, the lid keeps them safe & secure in the basket. The regular silverware baskets don't have a lid. I particularly like the "splitable" was basket for flatware on our machine. You can put the flatware in a multitude of places within the dishwasher to use all the available loading space.

I wish I could see the interior of the machine at the top of this thread.

31 300 Flavors

Perhaps there were different flavors of the 300 model build specific for certain retailers. Could explain why some results vary...

Maytag Tall Tub DWs

Were all made in a plant in Tennessee, these DWs were plagued with many problems from the onset and while MT still owned the name they made over 40 improvements to this DW. WP continued to operate this plant building DWs for several years after they took over MT, and initially WP said they would keep this DW line going because the factory was new and very efficient. After a few years they pulled the plug on MTs DW design as it was just to troublesome and all WP built DWs come out of the Findley Ohio plant now.

There were no hybrid WP-MT DWs, they are all one or the other.

Allen are you sure you have a MT designed DW or a MT labeled DW that came from Findley Oh.
A picture of the interior of your DW or the model & serial # will tell which one you have.

Your six year old Maytag may have been built after the Whirlpool acquisition seven years ago. Maybe the quality was improved.

Mine was troubl--alls I saysing. I loved my first Maytag, a Jet-clean from 1999, was not fond of the 300 Series in the new house.

Some people are having trouble with the Kitchenaid machines. I have not had any.

The Kitchenaid baskets are not covered to prevent light weight items from flying. They are to hold the cutlery upright so they don't nest. bit of a pain, but as Bob says you don't have to use it that way the covers do fold out of the way. I notice the GE we have here at work has the same set up, those disappeared after about the first week. People around here are too lazy to load the thing let alone take the time to poke the handles through the holes. Even has a place for chop sticks.

Interior Shot

She will get me a shot of the interior sometime today.
This machine is FREE in CT till Monday, when she is getting her new KitchenAid.
If anyone is interested in the machine, please inbox me.

Pictures to follow later today.

Happy Easter(and hopefully Spring)
