People are always slagging off Maytag washers and dryers in this group and elsewhere, however from what one sees there is a healthy interest in older units.
Yes if the agitator and tub are the same as the center-dial models then you can be assured the running gear inside hasn’t changed so that’s what still keeps Maytag’s era in this generation desirable!
I don't know that people are slagging on Maytag's. Some people have the notion that they last forever, with just a minimum of care. Set of belts, and they last 50 more years. And for the most part, that just ain't so. They have their issues, like all mechanical things do.
And, considering that the stem seal kit is now NLA from one of our favorite OEM supplier *groan*, keeping them running is about to get really expensive. I don't foresee Newton Maytags getting refurbished for resale for much longer.
I just placed what I suspect will be my last order for a bulk of bearing kits, as it would be a safe bet in forecasting those also being close on the chopping block.
Not to sound cliche, but Maytags are like Toyotas. Both will run for a long, long time, but there will be a day when they’ll need a complete overhaul and rebuild.
It’s a real shame how evil Whirlpool has become as of late.

Repairguy - I have been so NOT in the mood, due to miscellaneous, but as things are picking up energy-wise for me....posting is easier. I appreciate all you guys/gals and though there's plenty on Facebook(some good groups, some not so good), I'm glad to see a few familiar names here. Wishing you guys a good end of year and better health if that's on your wish list. Thanks again.
