I have a '78 Maytag that I am hooking up in my garage and need to make the drain hose longer. Is it best to put on an entire new hose? I need to make it about 10' long and was thinking I would buy rubber hose by the foot and add on one of those washing machine an aluminum wand/elbow drain thingies to the end . Can anyone let me know what size hose to buy, I think it's 1 1/4" but am not sure.

Thanks!! - jimmyb in AZ

1 1/4 on the outside....1 inch on the inside..........

what really concerns me is the length.....usually 6 to 7 feet is the max...and thats on regular speed......

unless you opt for the pulley for higher pump out levels....

can the drain be adapted closer to the washer?

Yeah, careful with Maytags. I attached a 12' hose to one of mine so I could water the garden with the grey water and it ended up stalling the motor. Mine was pumping part of the way up before out, so you would be ok if most of your drain route is downhill.

When I picked up my "free" Maytag I originally had it in the garage. I put a long 20'+ sump pump hose on it and it worked fine. This was one of the black corrugated ones, $8 at Home Depot. Of course, it was not pumping the water up in any way, the high point was the connection at the back. No issues what so ever.
