Maytag washer over filling

I have a maytag top loader model LA482. The water level is too high on extra large, and is about 2 inches from the top of the tub. Way past the "holes" on the tub sides.
Swapped out the blue intake thing from a working maytag, parts numbers the same. (where the intake water hoses bring water into machine.)
Should I try to adjust the screw on the diaphram? help! thanks and God bless, ann

Has the machine been doing this for sometime or did it start overfilling out of the blue?

There are several things it could be. A faulty pressure diaphragm, clogged air dome tube, or incorrectly adjustment of the pressure diaphragm.

It’s most likely just an incorrect adjustment on the pressure switch if it has been overfilling for sometime.

It does give you added capacity, but could be troublesome if you wash socks in loads at that water level unless you put them in those bags. I adjusted the water level upwards in my Maytags. Changing the fill valve would not affect the water level since the fill is metered. You can turn the adjustment screw on the pressure switch to lower the water level, backing it out a scant quarter turn to check the results.

I recently had this same problem with my 13 year old Maytag. The service man cleaned the pressure thing and it now works fine.

Mine, however, wasn't doing this all the time. There were times it would short fill, and other times it would overflow. In any case since the service man was at the house for another cause, he only charged me $22 for the repair to the washer.
