Maytag Water Hammer

I was browsing swestoyz's thread about 'tags and linked to his original thread regarding the commercial 'tag he'd found. He mentions a slow-close water inlet setup that reduces water hammer. Combo52 also mentioned it when I did a search for this.

Does anyone have a part number or a source for this part? Is it a direct replacement for, lets say, a 1971 A806? I like my machine but it hammers the hell out of my poor old plumbing.

SLOW CLOSE ANTI HAMMER INLET VALVES

All domestic washer manufactures changed to slow close inlet valves in the mid 1970s, if you buy the factory replacement for your 1971 MT you will get one automatically. When we were installing new MTs & WPs in the mid 1970s we weren't aware they had made the change at first and we were concerned that the new machines that we had just installed may have bad valves because they didn't shut off quickly like the old style valves did. Usually the slow closing on the old style valves meant it was starting to fail.

I'm still on the hunt for a parts machine (high cap/2 speed) that I can pull apart to repair 2 of the machines I have. PLan was to find a "brown control panel" tag from the 80s and use it for parts. If I can manage one of those, I'll pull the valve assy and swap it in.

Toggles, the device there looks like it would be ideal for my sprinkler timer. Thanks for the heads up!

You may also want to consider a small expansion tank for the hot-water heater. This will not only eliminate water-hammer from both the hot AND the cold pipes, but will extend the life of the hot-water heater as the stress of excessive pressure is absorbed.
