Your opinion please.......fellow automatic washer friends.....Is this one worth it? Is it a good machine? I know it is old but it is worth the effort, or just a waste of time to get it.
It is only about 25 minutes away from me.
Thanks,

Gary

My guess would be.....

Probably yes. The seller says it works and the price is right. My grandparents had one of these in their house from 81 until 85 when they sold the house. It did them pretty well.

My parents had a dishwasher similar to this in their house. It had the white knob. It lasted a very long time and was replaced last year when it sprung a leak and destroyed some laminate flooring.

i had the same dishwasher

It was excellent..just loud. Had to replace a spray arm once due to a split in the plastic and also replaced a belt. Worked great, left it in house when I sold it...it was about 15 years old at that time and did at least one load a day with no problems....I'd go for it.

My parents had one similar and the wash action was great! Somewhat noisy, but is a classic design and for $1.00...even if it doesn't work, it's a great machine to learn the "how to" on. I say go for it. :)

If this is one of the Maytags which had the glassware rack on the bottom and the dinnerware rack on the top, I'd snatch it up in a minute if I could. IMHO, this rack layout made much more sense, and I hated to see Maytag change it.

Auction ended

I emailed the seller to send me some interior shots before I bid on the item and NEVER heard a word back. Even asked this morning before auction ending. Not a word.
Oh well. Just will wait for something else to come along.
I don't really have that much room to 'store' things either.

I have the identical model. It's a great little machine, cleans well, but a little noisy. I like the idea of the "upside down" racks, too. They seem to be more flexible, but the silverware only cleans so-so. The glasses come out sparkling. This (an older Maytag) would be my second choice of dishwasher. KitchenAid is IMHO the best, that's why the Maytag is in storage and the KD Superba 20 took it's place.

I've been using my Maytag dishwasher for several months now and I'll agree with Steve, the machine does an outstanding job on cleaning dishes, pans - everything but cutlery & flatware. I've noticed a few spoons and knives with a little starchy residue left on them and of course, as with any dishwasher, nesting is always a problem. Larger utensils clean better lying in the racks rather than in the utensil basket.

I haven't decided if it's a particular fluke of design with this machine - having the cutlery basket on the top rack, the needle spray of the washing action isn't enough to "flood" the items or if, more likely, it's a problem of the water coming from essentially one direction.
