I was chatting with my Mom about decorating my master bathroom and my laundry room last night and we came up with simple, yet fun design of black and white photos of vintage washing machines, fans, close ups of interesting timers/clocks, etc. I have a ledge in my bathroom where I will putting an old typewriter, camera, etc on and thought that it would be a fun but simple way to decorate the bathroom, which is huge by the way and VERY boring as it is right now).
My bedroom is very plain and simple in color so I do not want anything super colorful in the bathroom. The bedroom is getting vintage Chicago prints for the walls (like the World's Fair and tourist pictures).
Of course the washer/dryer photos will go in the laundry room. :)
Since I only have a small handful of kitchen appliances, I was wondering if some of you out there would help me out by sending me digital B & W's of your favorite machines, appliances, whatever. If the picture is mostly black and white but the buttons are colored, that's great. Photos like that might help me out with colors for towels, accessories, & curtains. I have searched the collections link and saw many great photos but I won't want to use any from there unless it is OK with the owner of the photo. Jetcone had several I LOVED!
I thank you so much for your help in my quest for decorating a room that is different than others. One that only I will enjoy and appreciate to it's full extent, knowing that all of the items in the photos are so loved by so many people!
You can post the photos here or you can send them direct to me at [email protected] or [email protected]
Thanks so much-
Heather

Hi Heather, I had just previously read the pictures of us thread and saw the pics of your new house last Nov. and again congratulations. I can understand if you don't want to go all overboard in making your house a vintage shrine the way some of us like, well perhaps you would but the hubby wouldn't lol, but you can always find a place to store or display a small collection of your own, either in view or hidden in the basement. What's fun about having that is that it's like having your own personal little store and when you're feeling bored with something, i.e. a kitchen appliance or vac you just go and pick out something else to use for awhile. I do it all the time usually without any complaint from the other half except for changing electric can openers, my other half takes weeks to get used to a particular can-opener, then I switch it and hear no end of grumbling. hahaha.

Here are a couple suggestions

I like color personally and think that painting your laundry a nice color would be the first thing to do. If you don't want to go with a vintage color like turquoise, you might consider a navy blue or deep green color and keep the trim white. Try the local public library for vintage appliance ads in back issues of magazines and see if the library has a scanner. National Geogrphapic has some wonderful ads from the 50's and 60's too. Sometimes you can find them at a local garage sale. Ask friends if they have old magazines that you could borrow and scan the images into your computer. Then use photo quality paper and print them out. You might also find some vintage frames at a garage sale too to put your photos in.
