It's not an appliance, but it is an electrical apparatus from the past. This is the aluminum Christmas tree, complete with color wheel that my parents bought from J.C. Penney in 1964. I now proudly display it myself every Christmas season. Many happy memories here! (I have managed to collect 25 vintage color wheels through the years, many of which still have the original boxes. Happy Holidays and may God bless each of you.

You can still buy a new one!

The Hammacher Schlemmer specialty store in New York and Chicago still sells aluminum Christmas trees. They're available in two different sizes -- 5' and 7'. They even sell an updated version of the color wheels!

The 1960's didn't only have aluminum Christmas trees. Christmas trees also came in blue and red! It was kind of kitchy in a festive kind of way!

Happy Holiday's everyone.

Mike

aluminum tree

I grew up with the silver tree. Somehow, it disappeared over the years. When I met my partner, we were looking at some old pictures and he told me he had one in his garage. Guess what???? That is now the tree that we use, and my supervisor learned of it and bought me a new color-wheel..some think I am stuck in the 60's, but I love the tree and it certainly brings back some wonderful memories....the one that most of you would enjoy is the memory of the year that my sister got a Suzy Homemaker washer.....I ended up playing with it more than she did....

LOVE it

I love aluminum trees, my mom had one in MINT condition, everything all original and she threw it out about ten plus years ago ..........uuuuggggghhhhh

Yeah! I still Have Mine!

Somehow, it's survived all these years, but it's still tucked away in my attic. I got it at a pharmacy in Danbury CT's Pathmark when I was a kid (maybe 10 or 12, so it had to be the late 60's. It's about 4 feet tall & rust & gold colored. (One side of the tinsel is rust, the other gold) They had a few color combo choices, but I liked this one the best. Of course, they sold a plain gold one, which I thought was mundane. It cost around $5 or $6 at the time & of course I begged my parents until I got it. I'd decorate it with silver garland, or some bizarre color- it had to contrast! But it was MY tree....Jerry
