What is the origin of this horrible virus
Them that is always looking steal and or make money criminally.
One of the news programs covered this and other similar scams awhile ago and you have no idea how much is made.
Yes, some persons do catch on and not send funds, but equally many all over the world do believe the "FBI" or whatever is after them and or want their computer system restored and wire the funds.
Saw an interview on another news program were a major cyber security person said the best thing to do is have on computer to use for *only* online banking etc..., then another to surf the web and everything else. That is keep one computer clean by never clicking links, opening emails, searching the Internet, downloading programs, you get the idea.
The other suggestion was to have at least two (or more) anti-virus/spyware programs installed. Rationale behind this is that not even the most highly rated programs catch everything. We were using Avast and Windows built-in system and things still got through. Avast would find some after the fact but that is cold comfort.
Many newer anti-virus/spyware programs like WebRoot, Malwarebytes and so forth are designed to run at the same time as others. Still more like Windows Security, TSSkiller, to name a few do not run in the background all the time at all, but rather you either launch them to do scans or set them to do the same at certain times.

Military Hacked Into:
Our local news suggested that the Chinese were again responsible - after hacking into our own ASIO network and stealing building plans for a new building. This was ABC news (Australia), so I imagine the Chinese were again trying to gain knowledge and steal our stuff for their own gain.
