In early October, the shower door jumped its track, and a corner of it landed heavily on my naked right foot. A kind friend took me to Emergency (Accident and Casualty,) and it was determined to "just" be a deep cut, with no bone or tendon damage. It has healed well. They gave me a tetanus injection, because my last one was a few months over five years ago.

I told my landlord, politely, but LOUDLY that I was having the door taken out, and having a shower rod mounted, which happened the next week. A kind friend from church bought the rod, the curtain, and a new shower head on a hose, and I reimbursed him, he put it up.

I am SO glad not to deal with the horrible shower door any longer. It was hard to slide, and I just knew something along this line was eventually going to happen.

However,

Where are metal shower curtain rings to be found? I do not like the plastic ones that came with the curtain and liner. My local Bed Bath and Beyond does not have them on the sales floor, and the employee I asked had less than no clue. (what a surprise, really.)

Thank you all in advance.

Lawrence,

I got rid of my shower doors a while ago, too. They operated fine, but they were a pain to clean. The tracks always got mildew and the glass was always spotty from soap, etc. I couldn't wait to get rid of them.

They were replaced by a chrome curtain rod and metal curtain rings. I got mine at Target - although I looked on amazon.com and they have quite a few featured there in many styles. Mine have the small metal balls on the top that roll along the top of the curtain rod. They are more expensive than the plastic ones, but will last for years and look nice.

Plus, there are so many beautiful and fun shower curtains out there to choose - it can really brighten up the bathroom.

Enjoy your new shower curtain!

For hardware supplies….

… I would check signaturehardware.com. They have everything, from metal shower curtain rings, up to $5,000 copper bathtubs.

Home Depot has the metal rings also.  You can also get hookless shower curtains that have the rings built in and thus no extra rings are required.  I just removed the shower doors from my bathtub and replaced it with a rod and a hookless curtain (similiar to the one in the link) with the built in rings.  The top foot of the curtain is also see through to let in more light and the shower liner is on snaps so it can be removed to wash without having to remove the entire shower curtain.

Walmart has them about 97 cents. But there not where they should be well is anything at walmart in the right place. Look by the window curtain rods. I just got a pack a few weeks ago.

Dollar Tree Too.....

Full pack for a buck.

Glad to hear someone else prefers the basics.

Foofy shower curtain rings are God's way of telling you that decor has become entirely too important in your life.

Thank You ALL

My objection to the plastic shower curtain rings that came with the curtain is that I find them much harder to open and close than metal ones, and I like to wash the liner every month to six weeks.....

Also, I don't particularly LIKE plastic in the bathroom, but there are some items, such as shampoo and body wash bottles which are much safer in plastic.

Thank you all again. Next "general merchandise" shopping day, I'll know where to hunt.

I HATE shower doors,too-like curtains better-safer as well. And of course if the curtain is really dirty-easier to wash it than a door-or you can just replace it-esp if the vinyl is cracking-causing leaks.Lately-have found some rather nice shower curtains and hardware at---yard sales! Some of the linerless cloth curtains are nice, too.

Shower Curtain Fan Here....

....As others have pointed out, they're safer than glass doors, and much easier to keep clean, because the washer does the work while you do something else.

My own system is to keep two curtains and two liners on hand. That way, a fast change is easy to accomplish if company's coming or if I have to clean fast during limited time off.

Curtains wash according to their fabric, of course. Vinyl liners can be washed several times; the way I do it is to put the liner in the washer on "Hot" and use the "Gentle" cycle, plus LCB. About halfway through the cycle, I stop the washer, let things sit an hour, and then turn the washer back on to complete the cycle.

When that's through, I shake the water off the liner, and put it into the dryer on "Gentle Heat," watching it like a hawk. This is no time to get distracted, or to answer the telephone, because if the liner's left in too long, it can melt onto your dryer's drum. Usually takes five minutes or less, but check, check, check. After that comes folding and putting away.

Liners usually last three washes or so (I buy the cheap ones from Dollar Tree, because they hold water back just as well as expensive ones, and they don't show behind a nice curtain), and then they're ready to go to recycle. Even the worst-mildewed liner will come up clean and sweet as new.

YMMV, but this works for me.

I hope your new curtain has metal reinforced holes for the rings.

As for sliding the rings more easily, apply a bit of silicone glide stuff to the rod and the rings will fly along it. Even furniture polish will work for this.

My friend bought the curtain FOR me...

and the eyes are sewn like button holes. The curtain is a nice looking tan, fawn, and brown geometric.

I am pleased and rather surprised at the interest shown here.

I love having a shower curtain rather than a door because it is more comfortable to sit on the edge of the tub and dry off or whatever. Our shower curtain hooks (instead of rings) came from Wal-Mart. They're silver, and have a simple shell design on each one.

Recommend a curtain

While I have the attention of all the style experts...

Anyone want to take a stab at recommending a curtain and color/print for this bathroom?

That's right. We used to have to replace our shower curtains at least once a year because the holes on top would rip out.

Karen came up with this trick. When you get a new shower curtain right above the holes sew a line of "twill tape" in the color of your curtain. You're curtains will last nearly forever then with no ripping out of the holes. Quick and simple to do.

When I wash my vinyl curtain, don't run it thru the dryer at all-if you used a warm water rinse--just reinstall it and it will dry quickly if left spread out-I do this after each use-then the curtain won't get mildewy-learned this from my stepmom. We used to live in an unairconditioned house in Florida.DON'T use bleach on vinyl-It will remove the plasticizer and cause the vinyl curtain to crack. The hot wash and rinse is fine.Cold water can make the vinyl stiff, and cause cracking.Bleach is detrimental to just about all plastics.Even for poly greenhouse roofing sheeting-the installation instruction warn about exposing the plastic to bleaches or pesticides that contain chlorine. If nothing elese the heavy poly sheeting can be used as a homemade shower curtain-and have seen them made from old vinyl billboard posters.A 14X40Ft vinyl billboard poster could make a LOT of shower curtains-the vinyl is very heavy and strong!I tried this-one heavy duty and colorful curtain with a message-or part of it!Folks ask when thy use the bathroom.Just get freindly with the local billboard companies. The spent posters can be bought for sometimes a few dollars each!Originally these things cost hundreds to make.since they are displayed for a short time-lots of life left in the vinyl. After one of the hurricanes one person I knew used an old billboard banner as a temp roof tarp until the roof was fixed-kepted the blank side up.
