If its very cheap curtains-guess the bleach wouldn't be an issue.I do wash my curtains faily often-so the mildew won't form.Only time I use the bleach-is spray it on mildew that is trying to grow.One time caught it behind my washers-A spray of bleach from a spray bottle got rid of it-never seen it again.Don't like using bleach on my clothes and such-it is very powerful stuff and can cause damage.Guess we both live in mildew prone areas-the whole East coast can have the mildew problems from the humidity.

Curtain vs. Sliding Tub Door:
Well, I'm glad to learn that I'm not best off w/ a sliding shower door on the side of my tub; the disadvantages do outweigh the advantages...!
There was someone I know who is handy & claims one he was contemplating buying & installing himself, would be easy to install but I'm sure I would find the installation is difficult & the maintenance and leakage would be high...
Of course, w/ a shower curtain you gotta have the thing completely shut & flush to the wall that the shower itself is on (though that's the side my wife enters & exits from, so there is water a-plenty coming right out onto the bathroom floor, since she hardly ever closes it completely, too!)...
And you don't want the curtain hanging right in the tub when you use it to take a bath (I find my wife bathing the curtain AND the baby) while you must have it in the tub when the shower is on (and when she's showering, that's when the curtain is hanging outside of the tub, often w/ water dripping from it onto the floor)...
So there's good & bad w/ either, but I'll take a curtain (even w/ the rings & needed replacement & now I know I can recycle the old one) over a sliding door any day...!

Anybody have any decor suggestions for Julian? I was going to suggest something geometric and bold to play off the tile.

although not available online, DollarGeneral.com, has the ones with the little ball bearings on top, for 5.00.......and a nice selection of curtains/liners as well.....
after running my shower liner thru the washer, I hang it back up, and place the rod near the back of the shower, and using the handheld, run hot water over the front, and then position it where it belongs, and run hot water over the backside, once all the wrinkles are out, I leave it stretched over the whole shower rod, and as it cools, it takes shape to stay stretched out and flat as possible....
