That's a complex issue, I think.
Whirlpool moved a bunch of their washer production to Mexico 6 or 7 years ago.
Then Electrolux and LG (or maybe it was Samsung, or both) did the same thing.
In the meantime, Whirlpool has re-located its washing machine production that is destined for the U.S. domestic market back into the U.S. But it's assembly, and not really production.
"Proudly Assembled in the USA!" There is an FTC definition of "made" and "assembled" in the USA. And you can bet that Whirlpool is skirting the definition.
Whirlpool petitioned whatever governmental entity handles fair trade stuff and has gotten a ruling against LG, Samsung and Electrolux for selling washers at a disadvantage to them because they are making them outside the U.S.
Yeah, that sounds great, until you see that Whirlpool has transferred most of their refrigerator manufacturing to Mexico. Which was previously mostly made in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Amana, Iowa before Whirlpool decided they could make more bucks by shipping refrigerator-making to Mexico
I guess when LG or Samsung sets up refrigerator manufacturing in Mexico, we'll go through the same thing again...
