Microfiber Cleaning Cloth

A while back, don't know where or when, I read of tests pitting microfiber cloths with no detergent against disinfecting cleaners like Lysol kitchen cleaner on countertops and the microfiber-cleaned surface had a lower microbial count than the Lysol-cleaned surface. I don't know if I can give up the Lysol, even with microfiber cloths.

Each evening when I am through with my cotton terry dish cloth, I wring it out and place it on the round glass tray I keep in the bottom of my microwave. I set it for 2 minutes and when it is done, I pick it up by the two front corners and hang it to dry.

I have read that very little in the way of microbes escapes that treatment before! A very effective way to sanitize! Add a little bleach and you sanitize the oven too!

Microfiber cloths sound great....

but, I bet you should not drain pan-cooked bacon on them.

I have reduced my use of paper towels, but not given them up entirely.

I have recently bought some of these. Is the idea that you don't need to use chemicals for example, when cleaning windows, or do you just use them in place of a normal cleaning cloth?

Yes....only water.

Yes, just use warm water and rinse the microfiber cloth frequently and not only will you clean your windows, but it will polish them too. Much better than any cleaner would.
This morning I was in a rush and needed to shave after my morning shower. I didn't have time for the exhaust fan to "catch up" and clear the mirror. So I used a microfiber cloth to wipe the steam off the mirror. Not only did it work great, but it cleaned and polished the mirror too!

Cool! I have never tried them on windows before and mine badly need cleaning and every product I use always leaves a film of chemicals that you can see once the sun shines. I have used them on wooden venetian blinds and they really hold the dirt so as soon as it stops raining.......................

Terry sent me a bunch of these he found at Target a while back and they're awesome. I've been using them for spring cleaning the last couple of weeks - everything on every shelf, closet, drawer, etc. must be washed because of all the drywall dust from the kitchen project. Only one room to go on the main floor and then I start on the basement - ugh, this dust is horrible! I've been very pleased with the cleaning ability of these microfiber cloths though, I use all kinds of different cleaners with them - I always use something though, plain water has very little ability to suspend soil removed from surfaces and rinsed off the cloth. The instructions caution to prevent scratching; rinse or wash the cloth thoroughly while using it. The cloth itself won't scratch but what it picks up in the fibers will. I haven't tried them on windows yet but plan to, a little Dawn in warm water - wash with a damp/wet cloth and then dry with a tea-towel and done, never a streak.

You are so right about the windows Greg, once you have tried this method you will never use Windex on windows again.
