The seller is showing another use for the console-hold your new flatscreen TV for the newer programs-then use the older Magnavox set for the older shows.If the Magnavox has aux audio inputs you could run the soundtrack for the new set through the Magnavox-or use it for the "center" channel.

I prefer the flat screen on top, instead of the alternative. I applaud the seller for not "improving" and "updating" it.

I did that with my Philco stereo console. I use it as surround sound for my tv, when not listening to albums. They may have taken my idea off retro renovation. That was the point behind my idea, to preserve the components. Besides, with a high price they insure that no one buys it to rip out that magnificent magnavox tube amp.

Allen, It's b/w, magnavox color sets were round when this set was made. The square color set came along with the astrosonic period.

Joe, I didn't say they were all good. Isn't that aweful? I just wanted to show my Philco/flat screen combo. I like mine the best, but I'm partial.

Why not keep the console that was gutted and lighted as it was-A Hi-Fi console!The lighted nick-nack cabinet is ridiculous.Would be better if that console was lighted by the tube Magnavox or whatever amps!
The flatscreen TV cover is kinda clever and whimsical-like the "color bars" test pattern!If I get a flatscreen set-want one of those covers!Now---if we could only motorize it-have it come off the set when you turn it on!-the cover it when turned off.Guess I am asking too much!

I hate to see these old consoles gutted IF they had beautiful looking cabinets(wood and design combined). I don't mind if they were gutted and they were solid state and nothing really special - seems like the nicest consoles are gutted, though. I like your setup Will - and the link to retro-renovation. Thanks!
