I saw these advertised. The name Midea stands for My-idea. They are rebadged LG and Samsung. I gues they think there is room in the market with Kenmore declining?

Both LG and Samsung

are Korean companies. As if to say GE, etc. don't use any Chinese parts, wrong!! Samsung has a washer plant in South Carolina. Last I knew, LG ranges are assembled either stateside, or Mexico. Both companies US models ranges are designred for American homes.

Midea dehumidifier

I had a pipe burst in the shed and after being repaired it left the place rather damp and so I put my old unit on and it promptly died but its 20 years and a cheap Currys model.

So bought a Bol version for £100 it was delivered and so I installed it and each time I visit the shed its switched off due to being full of water. So am awaiting a spigot for the waste and will hook it up to the drain as even on its lowest setting it drags out more moisture than the old one ever could and being new its a lot more energy efficient. Win Win

If a appliance manufacturer doesn’t have any replacement parts available or have any sort of way to send techs out to repair the appliances they made, I wouldn’t even bother buying from a company who doesn’t have any replacement parts available or have any sort of warranty set up. Guess Midea’s appliances are made to be thrown out once something breaks since there aren’t any replacement parts available or have any sort way to send repair techs out.

I remember several years ago Gansky1 and I having a conversation about a quirky new microwave at work. He told me it was made by Midea and that Midea made microwaves for many brands here and that the only other company that produced microwaves Panasonic & Sharp.

I have occasionally seen small appiances labeled Midea but so far to my recollection never bought one.

In any case, thanks for the warning.

On another note, recently I returned a 3 year old microwave - Panasonic. It never worked right; I'd have to slam the door to get it to start. Costco took it back, no questions asked. Only problem is, the replacement would cost 50% more. And so it goes.

Companies don't have to offer repair parts. It's a nice-ity, but....

Think of how many things we buy that there are no repair parts readily available.

If things get to the point where cost cutting for the sake of lower prices to consumers brings a manufacturer to not offer parts...
If manufacturers figure an appliance only lasts an average of 5 years...
